Being able to Define a problem often can keep you alive

I have noticed throughout my life that if I can define the problem or problems I'm presently having I can get myself to a place of calmness and that that calmness will start to put things in order. Panic if left uncontrolled often can be fatal or maiming in some way I have found. So, finding some sort of way to define what you are experiencing that might be useful to you will usually keep you from dying of undefined panic. Sort of like turning a light on in a room late at night when you are a child after having a nightmare can "Bring you back to reality", defining what is likely bothering you can also bring you back to calmness and normalcy in your life so you don't self destruct (literally) from your own terrors as a child or even as an adult.

We all go through various kinds of horrific experiences while growing up and this creates minor forms of PTSD in almost everyone from their experiences. Knowing your own areas of weakness from your childhood and young adult traumas often can keep you alive and functioning without turning to Alcohol or illegal drugs as a crutch. Because, once you turn to Alcohol or illegal drugs there is often no way back to a normal life ever.

So, not going there to ways that only are going to harm you long term often is the best course of action.

I was very lucky because the men in my family were allergic to alcohol so drinking alcohol turned me from a really kind a nice guy (unless someone attacked me) to an asshole if I drank alcohol (over about one glass of wine). So, I learned by the time I was 16 and had one of my front tooth caps knocked out with a fist and had my right cheek also cut to the bone with a fist or door handle that I couldn't drink alcohol and survive it.

So, for me, this was a really good thing in my life and probably one of the reasons I'm still alive and never got addicted to anything like that.

But, throughout my life I learned that being able to define what is wrong with me or what was bothering me was the key to a happy and long and peaceful life traveling the world with friends and relatives whenever possible.

There is a saying, "Know Thyself".

I have found knowing yourself is much more important than knowing anyone else.

This is because "Wherever you go there you are."

You can run away from people you meet to any place in the world but you never can run away from yourself.

So, unless you make friends with yourself and get to know yourself you are in for a very miserable life indeed.
