A wildfire along the Oregon and California border has closed Interstate 5, officials said.
The fast-moving Klamathon Fire roared to 5,000 acres Thursday night, prompting evacuations in Hornbrook, Calif., located 8 miles south of the state line.
I-5 is closed between Ashland and Yreka, Calif. There is no timetable for reopening the interstate and it may remain closed through the night.
Evacuation shelters are open at Jackson Street School in Yreka and at Ashland High School.
The fire is 0 percent contained and moving fast with high winds and dry conditions.
The fire is burning on both sides of I-5, as far north as the Hilt interchange, roughly two miles south of the Oregon and California border.
Power lines near Bailey Hill Road north of Hornbrook are burning and visibility has been reduced to zero in some areas, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident page.
