I remember when I was in my 50s and my cousins husband died of pneumonia at around age 60. This seemed very young to be dying. She had married him around 1960 because she was about 7 years older than I and I graduated High school around 1966 in May IN Santa Fe, New Mexico. I remember being young and them dating in Seattle and he had a red MG Midget sports car and I thought that was so cool. But, now he was dead at age 60 from pneumonia in Seattle and she had her sons grown up but besides that she was alone. At this time I hadn't been diagnosed as hypothyroid yet and I contemplated that I likely would die by 60 also from something similar to pneumonia or bronchitis because I was getting brnochitis about 5 times every winter (caused by being hypothyroid). Because when my physical trainer from Germany said she thought I was hypothyroid from my symptoms I immediately got a t3 and then a t4 blood test and found out she was right. If I had been diagnosed sooner I wouldn't have suffered through my 40s and 50s with depression from it and cold hands and getting sick so much every winter and not ever feeling very warm because of my hormones being out of balance. But, being hypothyroid as a woman is much much worse than having it as a man because mens hormones are relatively simple and direct but women because they can have children is a much more serious ailment when a woman is hypothyroid. For example, my aunt was so scary as a hypothyroid that she scared her doctor so much he wouldn't see her anymore. So, being a woman who is hypothyroid sometimes makes them a little crazy without taking thyroid medicne whereas a man is more likely to just be depressed and get bronchitis a lot instead and have cold hands and have trouble staying warm when it's cold outside.
So, in 2006 when I started taking Armour Thyroid it was amazing. I was still 58 years old in 2006 so I had all the problems you do at this age but then my mind was suddenly like it was at 20 once again so it was like being reborn. By 2009 I bought myself a KLR 650 dualsport motorcycle and I went skiing a lot more because I felt so much better in general and whenever I could I went to Hawaii to go snorkeling with my family with all the tropical fish.
So, I became much younger in my mind and in my actions when I began taking Armour thyroid and so it lengthened my life a lot too by acting and feeling and traveling more because I felt good enough in my mind and body to do this.
So yes, if I hadn't been diagnosed likely I would have died like my female cousin's husband did at around 60 to 65 years of age.
Instead I'm still traveling the world and snorkeling, skiing, riding my motorcycle and traveling around in the U.S. with my wife and sometimes my children and friends.
Only now I'm 70 years old doing this instead of 60!
So, if you suspect this could be your problem it is worth it to ask your doctor for a t3 and t4 blood test to see what is going on with you.
