The Arizona State Fair was closed Saturday for the first time in recent memory after remnants from Hurricane Sergio dumped rain on Phoenix.
Some parts of Phoenix saw 3 inches of rain from the storm, causing flooding to streets and sidewalks near the fair, at 1826 W. McDowell Road, with ankle-deep water.
Fair officials had initially tweeted Saturday that the fair was open and some rides and games may be closed due to the weather.
But shortly before 3 p.m., fair officials had seen enough.
"Thank you everyone for braving today's storm. For the first time in recent memory The Arizona State Fair is closing due to weather," the state fair tweeted.
Given Sunday's forecast of sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, the fair is expected to once again welcome guests for thrilling rides and fun fair food.
The 2018 state fair runs through October 28. For more information, visit the website at azstatefair.com.
