I was interested in where Manali was and realized it was not far from Mendi when I visited there by bus in late January 1986 with my family then. I hadn't heard of a trail between Manali and Ladakh before today though. The picture of the high mountains with Gwalwang Drukpa and his procession walking is this route from Manali to Ladhakh. They did this in 42 days in 2009.
