Yes. But, this is difficult to quantify for every single person on earth. The reason for this is we all tend to have somewhat different belief systems culturally speaking. In other words languages both verbal and dream languages are different all over the world. So, when you try to speak to someone in their 2nd language or third verbally speaking language it might be more difficult to have really solid communication.
It would be better of both people are more telepathic which is a better way to communicate because verbal languages are frail for real communication between people of different cultural communications styles.
There is a saying which is: "KNOW THYSELF" which is the single most important thing regarding enlightenment in any individual.
Communication with oneself can be the difference of whether a person is civilized or not in his or her behaviors towards other humans or animals or other beings here on earth. If you are kind to yourself you will tend to be kind to others but if you are cruel towards yourself you will also tend to be cruel towards others. This is why people who are inherently suicidal are dangerous not only to themselves but also to all others as well.
In fact when I was studying psychology in the 1970s we spoke of the Suicidal-Homicidal state of mind of someone who is suicidal.
In other words someone suicidal is not just a danger to themselves but also a danger to everyone around them too (at least from a psychologist's or other counselor's point of view.
However, understanding one's dreams can be helpful in moving out of a suicidal-homicidal state of mind.
What helped me move out of this suicidal-homicidal state of mind from about 1969 to 1973 was to realize that there was only one being in the universe and we are all facets of this one being God.
In other words everything in the universe is a piece of God like his child from Galaxies, to Stars, to planets, to people, to animals, everything.
For me personally, experiencing the whole universe this way was helpful to me to want to stay alive. Once I had accepted myself as a part of God fully and accepted that literally everything and everyone in the universe was a piece of God I became more holistic and able to want to be alive here on earth.
Being suicidal was for me about feeling alienated in various ways from myself and from the world and from other people and once I could accept myself and the whole universe as a part of me or better said that I was a part of everything and everything was a part of me because the universe is literally God's mind but not really physical at all in the way humans tend to think about this then I was Free.
So, this movement for me was a way towards a form of enlightenment and ever since I have been refining this form of enlightenment ongoing. Once I got the basic design of the universe and how God had designed everything including me I was on board with the whole thing because it finally made sense to me and I stopped being afraid and stopped wanting to die.
So yes, You need your dreams. You need to understand your dreams.
There is a saying that I find very useful: "LOSE YOUR DREAMS AND YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MIND!"
So without our dreams and our connection to the past, present and future of the entire universe that they bring we are all dead or soon to be dead.
So yes, our personal physical and psychological and spiritual survival is connected to our dreams whether we understand this or not.
