The U.S. has been in Afghanistan since 2002 or 2003 ever since 9-11 basically. So, almost 20 years we have been there. But, to me the problem is two fold. One NO ONE HAS EVER conquered Afghanistan and kept it ever (in some ways not even the Afghanistani people). So, Afghanistan helped destroy economically the Soviet Union which caused it to collapse and end when the U.S. gave Stinger missiles to Osama Bin Laden and his people (the Mujahadeen) started blowing out of the sky really expensive Soviet jets and helicopters and killing their crews and blowing up tanks with them and killing their crews in the 1980s.
The main difference between the Soviets and the U.S. is that we don't really want to take over and rule Afghanistan we just don't want terrorists based in Afghanistan to cause other 9-11s or worse.
Basically it has become too expensive for the U.S. to prop up leaders and soldiers who help prevent terrorist cells from forming in Afghanistan. So, mostly it is about money at this point more than anything else actually.
My thought is that the CIA will continue to wipe out terrorists in Afghanistan and around the world even after all American soldiers are gone home to the U.S. or other U.S. bases around the world.
People in Afghanistan who are more westernized and like democracy possibly might have to leave Afghanistan so the Taliban won't kill them though. This is the problem I see for Afghanistan the most.
The Kurdish people had a similar problem with being Friends with Americans. It's true Americans are rich in some ways but there's only so far that can go because at some point reality will set in and people will have to make the really tough decisions in the American government that no one wants to make like the decision Biden has made regarding Afghanistan and others had to make regarding the Kurds.
