Some people when they write have the complete story in their minds and then they draw the outline to the story and they have the whole story including the ending.
The way my mind works there is no ending (probably because I think like a soul who has lived maybe billions of years already) so I never have an ending because in life there are no endings only transitions to life from my present point of view. So, I never see endings to what I'm writing only new things I'm aware of from that lifetime I'm observing. Even a person dying isn't the end for them it's only a transition to something new or maybe something they were doing before they were born as a human being on earth.
So, for me at least, nothing is planned because it is like I'm watching a memory of my own (which is what it really is) so the memory comes when it comes in it's own time and cannot be rushed. So, all I have to do is to wait for the memory of what I have to write about next to be revealed to me.
When I started out first doodling and writing at 4 to 8 years old I often used spiral notebooks with lined paper to doodle and write upon. Then in 7th grade one summer I took a typing class and by the end of it I could type 25 to 30 words a minute (which is actually a lot of words when you are first learning to type).
Now if I want to I can type 60 to 80 words a minute but often it is not useful to type that fast simply because I have found the faster I type the more corrections I have to make so I usually type at about the same pace as someone is speaking in my own mind which I find to be the most useful with the least amount of errors or mistakes in typing.
By age 15 I did my first big term paper in a history class in High School Called "The History of the Automobile". I remember staying up one night typing the whole thing up so I could turn it in on time.
The combination of typing and making copies of photos I wanted to share in my report made it a lot of fun to do even though staying up all night one night to get it in on time wasn't as fun for me. But, I was proud of the result and got a really good grade on it so I felt all the effort was worth it.
The success on this first big term paper helped me have the courage on bigger research reports on into College and in real life and businesses afterwards.
