The problem is that "Autopilot" in many new cars and models isn't safe in many situations

For example, we bought a 2022 Subaru Ascent to drive to Lake Louise in Canada in June of 2022. We were to meet friends in Teton National Park who had come from Mt. Shasta and we would stay together in hotels from the Tetons to Yellowstone to Glacier National Park to Lake Louise where we stayed at a hotel overlooking the lake then.

However, if there were no cars or trucks much and we were traveling from places like Reno across the state where there wasn't much traffic I often engaged not only cruise control but also allowed the car to drive itself too. However, I was very aware that while doing this it wouldn't be safe in many driving conditions. I tried to get my wife to use it but she was scared to. However, I did convince her to use the new type of Cruise control where all you have to do is to steer the car yourself where it automatically brakes for you down to about 15 or 20 miles per hour by sending out likely radar or other signals that bounce off the car in front of you so it knows when to slow down. So, you set the speedometer control to a speed you want to travel and then the car watches for when someone is in front of you and it slows down as needed or speeds up when they move away somewhere else. So, all you have to do is to control the steering wheel. However, if you let the car steer that's when you could easily die in many situations if you aren't really watching what is happening. The problem is many people might not have the reflexes or awareness at the right times to actually save their lives while some version of an "Autopilot" is on.

In a plane often you have time where nothing much is happening and no one is in front of you in your way. But, in a car or truck mostly that just isn't the case. So, the busier it is traffic wise the more likely you could actually die if you put your full autopilot on (whatever it is called in your vehicles model and make).

Understanding this is often the difference between life and death.

I often tell people that autopilot in any car or truck is often like putting your 5 year old in your lap to steer the car. It may or may not be a good idea in the first place. So, if you have bad judgement or bad reflexes or are texting or something else you soon might be dead.
