Quan Yin is the revered Bodhisattva of compassion and mercy in East Asian Buddhism.

Who is Quan Yin?

Her full Chinese name, Guanshiyin, means "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World".
She comes from the Indian bodhisattva named Avalokiteshvara, who was originally depicted as male.
Over time, as Buddhism spread through China and East Asia, her representation evolved into a female form.
She postponed entering paradise, or Nirvana, to stay behind and help end human suffering.
