We are expecting a big storm that may bring down big trees Thursday on northern California coast

The polar vortex has been on the West Coast about a week so far bringing some snow and low snow levels of 2000 to 3000 feet especially in the northern State. Even San Diego's low tonight is around 42 degrees and about 41 where I live on the coast with much colder temperatures inland. A Friend 10 miles inland for example in a valley reported a temperature of 27 degrees recently for example but the lowest here so far is about 37 to 38 degrees with frost the other morning when I woke up. There is snow in local mountains often but it doesn't last long especially if the sun comes out during the day. Anything above about 2000 to 3000 feet is going to have some snow. Even Sacramento had thick hail today that looked like snow and there was snow as far down as Grass Valley near Auburn on Interstate 80 which goes over the Sierras towards Lake Tahoe and Nevada from Sacramento Valley.

There is even snow in Italy in places like the Colosseum there today from the polar vortex coming down off the north pole there too. And 5 feet of snow in the Baltic states of Europe.

Note: Sometime in January or February we pretty regularly have 10 to 15 pine trees down across roads near where I live and sometimes power outages here on the coast for a few days time. Last year I bought a  a good sized  gasoline powered generator so I can have power at least from about 8 am to 8 or 9 pm so we don't lose food in the refrigerator or WIFI or TV and we can have a  few lights on too. Just one power outage can make it financially worth having a generator because you often can lose 300 to 500 dollars in food within 24 to 48 hours in a power outage. We also have gas burner stove top in the kitchen that can be lit with matches instead of the automatic electric sparkers during a power outage. For heat, we also have a fireplace to keep warm around the fire if we need to as well during a power outage.

It can also be helpful to have a land line if your smart phone or cell phone goes dead so the power company can call you and give you alerts too. In an emergency if you don't have a generator you can always turn on your car and charge up your phone from your 12 volt outlet while car or truck is running too.
