Since being posted last week, the short video has galvanized public concerns that radioactive material could be landing on the local coastline after traveling from Japan as a result of the 2011 meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi reactors....

Just to be safe don't use red plastic utensils when you are eating sea food.
This is to day and the reactors are still not repaired so still doing the same thing, pumping 300 tons a day of polluted water into the ocean , Reactor 4 is suppose to be running at 1,000C any inspection equipment melts in minutes.
Plus the problem of the 5,000 odd fuel rod removal if 2 touch there will be an explosion 13,000 bigger than the bombs.
So West coast move East then down South America or Australia then to.....?
so Japan is returning the material with interest.

And frankly, I just can't see the phrases "radiation professional" and "oh snap" coming together...

NEWS FLASH.... There was NO NUCLEAR EXPLOSION under Fukushima last week, or last month or ever...
Fukushima's REACTOR'S never exploded either. Hydrogen gas (produced by process's too lengthy and complicated to get into here) built up inside the reactor BUILDING'S (because they had no MANUAL vents). That Hydrogen exploded and blew off the ‘big tin shed’ roof and top floor walls over the CONCRETE containment and spent fuel pool.
Yes the explosions did some damage to the reactor vessel PIPING inside the outer building, which allowed contaminated water from the vessel to escape and affected core cooling, but it DID NOT blow 'pellets' of fuel from the reactor core...
(from metal tube fuel assemblies INSIDE the ~8" steel reactor vessel INSIDE the ~1" steel lined ~4 foot thick CONCRETE containment and past the several hundred ton ~35' wide ~8' thick Concrete containment cover)
...into the spent fuel pool next to it (get it, spent = older, still radioactive fuel already removed from the reactor, covered in dozens of feet of HEAVILY borated water that STOPS the reactions).
Yes the spent fuel pool liners are damaged and leaking, as are the pipes coming from the reactor vessel, but pumps are recirculating that water back into the pools and water levels are fine, the problem is cooling that water sufficiently to prohibit it boiling, and POSSIBLY uncovering that spent fuel that WOULD further melt down into the bottom of the concrete building, making clean up a REAL BITCH. And filtering the water fast enough to prevent more releases.
(google chernobyl elephants foot)
UNLIKE Chernobyl, Fukushima's fuel is NOT flammable and will not "BURN UP DIRECTLY INTO THE ATMOSPHERE"!!!
To tell a 'not so secret' secret, SEVERAL U.S. Military test reactors actually did explode AND burn outside Las Vegas, they still find pieces of the highly radioactive fuel occasionally out in the desert, look at the millions of people downwind who died... OH SNAP, didn't happen.
Are there bad things happening, yes. Does this make it more of an issue to clean up, yes.
Is this all media hype by A: misguided ANTI-Nukers who are irrationally afraid of anything they don't understand,
B: half-educated health professionals who do not really understand what they are talking about when it comes to the technology and mechanism involved (>50% of Doctors),
or C: purposeful misinformation from people with an agenda or some sort of financial interest in stopping Nuclear Power... ABSOLUTELY!

I do not FEAR radiation, I respect it, and my JOB, MY OATH, MY ENTIRE BEING is to PROTECT the PUBLIC FIRST, my workers SECOND, myself THIRD and my employers LAST, and that includes reporting negative things they might have done. There are about 3500 of us active in the U.S., we are ALL Professionals and place ourselves into any hazard before we allow our workers entry. 2 of my friends went to Fukushima immediately after the accident to assist (I wasn't asked and I didn't have a Passport). Second Numbnuts, if "every radon isotope caused lung cancer", then EVERY person living in Pennsylvania would be dead already... as would EVERY person who have EVER visited that beach in Brazil in the video... radon there too.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! I DO. Why do you fault the video I posted vs the amateur in San Fransicko?
Do YOU have any clue what the background is where you live? Do you know that the background in Denver is higher than it was ANYWHERE within 10 miles of Three Mile Island unit 2 during it's accident? I have had collectible items in my house for well over 15 years reading at least 10-100 times that in the San Fran video... CANCER FREE.
HERE are some real numbers.. They (Intl experts) are reporting 15 and 25 Sieverts/hr in 2 locations (15000 - 25000 Rem/hr).. this is approximately what a newly spent fuel rod emits, a very significant number that would absolutely kill someone within minutes... but then the nuclear industry doesn't allow people to just walk up to a spent fuel rod, they are kept shielded under 10's of feet of water... these kind of levels were found at Three Mile Island during it's cleanup, and even higher numbers were found at Chernobyl... the last I checked (just last November when I was there) there were STILL people working at Three Mile Island that were there when the accident occurred. All a little older, but still in good health.
Rem's or Sievert's are a method of measurement of dose... several years ago at another incident at a different facility in Japan, 3 men were exposed to several hundred Rem instantly (they were negligent), 2 of the 3 died, the third was still alive the last time I checked.
DOSE MAKES THE POISON:.. you can't live healthily without Iron, Copper and Arsenic in the body, but too much of them will kill you.. the human body 'evolved' in a radioactive environment and radiation is all around you.
It's in the food and water you intake, it's bombards you from outer space, our sun, and even the concrete in your home... this LOW LEVEL exposure DOES NOT KILL cells, they repair themselves, and that in and of itself forms part of the body's defense mechanisms. Radon gas is the main exception as it comes in direct contact with lung tissue which has no skin as a defense, yet most cells still repair themselves (same reason smoking causes cancer from Polonium).
The average person in the U.S. receives about 0.600 Rem PER YEAR from all sources. A standard chest x-ray imparts about 0.040 Rem in an instant, you get about 0.005 - 0.025 Rem on a cross country flight.
American Nuclear Workers (includes Medical Field) are allowed up to an ADDITIONAL 5 Rem per year of Occupational dose. I personally have well over 10 Rem additional dose after 26 years in the field, and suffer no adverse health effects and am cancer free at 52. I have several friends nearing or in their 70's who have received many times that dose, some well over 50 Rem in their careers, and they can outlast many younger folks half their age, and are cancer free.
Again, it is THE DOSE... how much how quickly... that determines adverse health effects. There are SO MANY variables that determine someone getting cancer, and MANY natural and man-made carcinogens (alcohol, asbestos, cigarettes..) that are FAR more likely to cause cancer than low level radiation exposure is.
1/3 sea life dead... BULLSHIT flags flying...
ALL Bluefin Tuna caught BEFORE Fukushima 'were radioactive'... Cesium was and has been diluted in the oceans from all the world’s airborne and underwater Atomic tests since the late 40's... a couple hundred thousand gallons of mildly contaminated water from Fukushiima was added to the mix, diluted in the Millions of TRILLIONS of Gallons of water in the ocean.
Every one of you reading this is 'radioactive' from the naturally occurring radioactive material in the foods you eat and the water you drink. You get 0.002 Rem per yer sleeping next to your significant other and they from you.
This is nothing more than fear mongering from the un-educated or opportunistic. A 3% increase in radioactive material levels found in tuna over the extremely low levels they had before Fukushima STILL make them EXTREMELY low levels.
Google 'bluefin tuna radioactive hoax' and quit worrying.
Below from HuffPo no less, NOT a Republican war mongering big business protecting website...
“In fact, according to the data, rates of caesium-137 and caesium-134 are 35 TIMES LESS than the amount of radioactive potassium, which is naturally-occurring in the fish. Radioactive potassium, along with polonium-210 are the two most common and largest radioactive compounds in our foods, but even these give off far less radiation than other natural sources we are exposed to on an annual basis: radon, which occurs naturally in soil and rock, and cosmic rays.”

"Normal" backgrounds with that type of instrument would be between 100 and 150 counts per minute. That's based on thousands of data points collected between 1987 and 2011 at coastal area between San Francisco and San Diego. Remember, large variations will be seen in the data based on the origin of the sands, that is, what was weathered to produce those local soils. Some native formations in the Sierra are quite high in Radium and those formations weather and are transported down stream. Also, off shore and sub-surface formations are variable and add to the shoreline mix.

There is no such thing as a safe level of radiation exposure. A good example is radon. One radon isotope, if breathed in, will give you lung cancer, no if's an's or buts.
It may take 20 years, but it will happen if you don't die of something else in the meantime. I feel very bad for the people of the west coast, but we will all see spikes of cancer rising because of this tragedy. At present, there is no way to stop the radiation that is leaking out of the reactors in fukushima,in fact, the radiation levels are going UP,not down as the Japanese government thought they would. There is no end in sight for radioactive isotopes from reaching the coast of California for a long time to come I am afraid to say...

The "red-painted disposable eating utensils" theory is ridiculous. There's no way these would affect such a large area, to such a large extent.read more (about 18 more lines)
There is a grave difference between external exposure (which would be brief and harmless) versus INTERNAL exposure which would be both higher and continuous. Anybody eating the seafood, or even breathing the Pacific ocean air should be very concerned. Biological systems (including people) concentrate radioactive materials in a manner that defies intuition. For example, the radioactive Iodine from a Chinese nuclear test was detected and identified in the thyroid of deer and elk in Colorado less than one week after the test.
I'm from the midwest, and even we have seen occasional radiation spikes attributable directly to Fukushima. As a clear example of tangible evidence, whenever there has been a combination of both wind and precipitation post-3/11 there has also been an accompanying spike in radiation in Duluth, Minnesota per the EPA's own RadNet. There was also a very clear spike in the days and weeks just after 3/11 which apparently has resulted in a permanently higher background level. The EPA has many devices online, but the Duluth meter has the most interesting trace since prior to 3/11 it always showed a very low and stable level making the effects of Fukushima extremely and undeniably obvious.
Of course if treated as background radiation the levels are still very low, but if as the traces reveal, the radiation is coming down from the sky in the rain and snow, then we're likely also breathing it in and accumulating it into our bodies during those times.
And yet, Duluth is located in the center of the continent! I'd absolutely hate to live on the west coast. After 3/11 my family ceased buying any produce from the west coast, or any seafood from the Pacific Ocean.

These are absolutely key points:read more (about 36 more lines)
"[T]he county inspector measured the beach to have a radiation level of about 100 micro-REM per hour, or about five times the normal amount."
…
"A person would need to be exposed to 100 microREMs of radiation for 50,000 hours before it surpassed safety guidelines by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, [Peterson] said."
Comment:
The above guidelines relate to the danger posed to humans, but what about marine life along the impacted coastlines? Sea life most certainly have and will sustain more than 50,000 hours of exposure to levels of radiation not set for their own biology but for safety of ours! This could prove deadly to harbor seals, sea birds and those who regularly fish off our coasts.
Understand: The process of biomagnification, a known-phenomena in which toxins concentrate at the top of the food chain, will impact human populations over the long term because we are at the top of the food chain. Nature will take its course, diminishing the health and vitality of human populations far beyond Japan, unless public health officials acknowledge that there should be limits on fishing, and possibly seafood consumption in general.
Another key point:
"Past computer simulations had indicated that radioactive cesium-137 from the Fukushima reactors could begin appearing on West Coast shores by early 2014."
In view of the predictions, how can Peterson feign ignorance with a straight face?
The article states: "Peterson admitted he was 'befuddled' as to why radiation levels were higher than normal, but he was skeptical that the Fukushima meltdown could be the cause."
Peterson blames a spontaneous rise in background radiation levels; however, unless there is another nuclear power plant disaster we don't know about (unlikely), the radiation detected would NOT be consistent with the type of radiation typical to a fission process (e.g. cesium-137)!
Studies out of Spain and elsewhere suggest that we should not be surprised that Fukushima radiation should make an appearance on the West Coast. Is Peterson honestly unaware of this?
Unlikely.
It is safe to deduce the following: Peterson is either incompetent OR he is being threatened or bribed into downplaying what he knows to be true (the "obvious"). Even if we assume Peterson really believes what he told the reporter who interviewed him, he is still glossing over the impact to marine life, which at minimum should trigger an advisory against consuming fish from the impacted areas!
Public officials once had a monopoly over what was reported on TV stations and radio, but with the advent of the Internet our "experts" should know better by now: DO NOT PATRONIZE THE PUBLIC. We are intelligent enough to put two-and-two together, and anyone who seeks to inform us will lose all credibility if they underestimate us. Peterson ought to get real or resign. If he can't be more astute, it implies that he lied on his resume to get a job he is poorly qualified to hold OR has been threatened into playing the part of the dismissive "expert". Either way, Peterson ought to be ashamed of how stupid he comes off in this article.

Bible Prophecy
“Evil Men (and Women) Will Wax Worse and Worse”
Deceiving . . . (Lying)
and BEING Deceived”
Jesus (Yeshua) called Satan the “father of all lies.” The Bible warns “in the last days” evil men (and women) will be prevalent. Lying and deception (which are now called “spin”) will characterize the generation (and the leaders) who will pull the world down into the dark abyss and terrors of the coming “Apocalypse” . . .
“But KNOW this,
that in the last days
perilous times will come . . .
Evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse,
deceiving (lying) and being deceived.”
(2 Timothy 3:1, 13)
The Scriptures tell us God cannot lie and He h ates all lies. God says truth is non-negotiable and is fundamental to His law. In the past, liars and perjurers were held accountable and dealt with harshly and severely. Today we see lying casually accepted in the news, in the movies, and on television. Lying is now being presented as funny and harmless. This generation is unique in its reaction to liars and perjurers. This nation even lifted up and still glorifies a recent President whose most notable characteristics were flagrantly staring into a TV camera lying and deceiving … and then later being convicted of criminal perjury. This generation mocks our rules of law. This generation mocks God’s Law. As noted, telling the truth is fundamental to God’s law. In the Bible we find when a nation and its leader(s) defiantly mock, ignore, and turn their backs on God’s law, God will turn His back on that nation and will remove His protection and blessings from that people. God help us. The future of that nation and people is always very, very grim …
A stark warning . . .
“Knowing this:
that the Law is not made for a righteous person,
but for the lawless and insubordinate,
for the ungodly and for sinners,
for the unholy and profane,
for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers,
for manslayers,
for $exually immoral (fornicators),
for homosexuals (sodomites),
for kidnappers,
for liars,
for perjurers,
and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine”
(1 Timothy 1:8-10)
“But the cowardly, unbelieving,
abominable, murderers,
$exually immoral,
sorcerers, (drugs … “pharmakeus”)
idolaters,
and all liars
shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone,
which is the second death .” (The darkness, aloneness, and torments of HeII

"Counts per minute is a standard way for Geiger counters to measure radiation, but it does not directly equate to the strength or its hazard level to humans. Those factors depend on the type of radioactive particles and isotope."
What do they think we are stupid. No radiation is GOOD for you.
"Government officials say they are looking into the video shot on Dec. 23 and performing their own sampling of the beaches, but they have found no indication so far that radiation levels were hazardous."
And they never will no matter how bad it gets. They are most likely desperately searching for beach sites in the area with normal counts so they can minimize this find. Chernobyl increased background radiation by a factor of 2 world wide and so will this once it spreads out.

Sorry, I should have exercised some due diligence... The story from enenews may draw upon a same day posting at http://www.whatdoesitmean.com/index1729.htm (or vice versa). Either way, the purported explosions appear to be a misrepresentation of two reported earthquakes ~80km southwest of Fukushima
Also, I searched the and sites for recent posts using search term "fukushima" and came up empty.

Hey, do not worry about anything.
Take a swim, eat some fish, and do not worry about a thing.
Remember, the government LOVES you and would never tell you that the air was safe to breathe around ground zero when they knew it was deadly.
And remember, the same Government that LOVES you, forced people dying from the air they breathed in to fight for benefits while they rotted away.
And lastly, do not forget when the Fukishima reactor blew, the FIRST priority of the United States was to send a PUBLIC RELATIONS team to handle the flow of information and limit the General Electric connection to the reactors that blew.
If that is not love, I do not know what is.

Well, Wendy, for any thinking critically-minded person (there are still quite a few), there are valid reasons for concern... might I suggest that you and your colleagues who on the public purse, purportedly serving the public interest, GET ON IT!!
And as for Peterson's "befuddled" comments...
Feel any safer knowing people like that are involved? "red painted utensils"?! ARE YOU SERIOUS!? "just higher levels of background radiation"?! REALLY!?
Where do these people get their brains and their gall? YIKES!
Is it defacto policy to continually treat thinking adult taxpayers like children? PLEASE DO NOT WORRY ABOUT FRIGHTENING US WITH THE TRUTH!! And if you don't have the facts at hand, then GET THEM!!
Some day, Ms. Hopkins and Mr. Peterson, I suspect there is going to be a reckoning, it is called accountability, and people who should know better, who are being paid to act responsibly in the public interest, and are not, are going to start ending up in jail.
Rant off...

I suspect Betty is on the right path with soil analysis. Source is likely Navy: Farallones dump and/or Independence CVL. Navy knows what is out there. Whether they care to address public concern is a different matter entirely. You need look no further than Hunters Point, Treasure Island, etc. to see their history of handling hazardous materials.
MikeJ posted at 10:21 am on Sun, Jan 5, 2014.
Considering the history of dumped barrels of radioactive waste off the Farallones and the leakage at Fukushima, it's very difficult to imagine that the government does not systematically measure the radiation along the coast, especially at these populated beaches. I find the lack of transparency in collected data, extremely disturbing.
To publicly speculate that the radiation levels could be "normal" background levels, after they recently swept the area via helicopters, to supposedly measure these background radiation levels, seems just too odd. To have not been routinely collecting ground samples for the past 2 years, would be negligent and worthy of an investigation.
We're talking about our health and our ability to make our own decisions based on real data. This data is not being shared for reasons that are being considered to be more important than our health. Nothing is more important.

Hi:
Thought you should check out http://geigercounter.com/ The site refers to the video regarding the high radioactivity on the beach near Half Moon Bay just south of Pilar Point. Soil sample was analysed and has Radium 226 and Thorium 232. Fukushima's spectral signature radionuclide is Cesium 137 and that was not found at the beach. The question remains "whether this material is naturally occurring at this beach or not remains..."

I'm no math wiz, but the OSHA guidelines seem to say 1 REM limit for radiation workers - isn't 100 microREMS times 50,000 hours work out to 5 REMS?
Also, EPA says annual dose shouldn't exceed 100 milliREMS. At 100 microREMS per hour, that would take 1000 hours or just over 42 and a half days...

DURrrr.. no sh!t ?
And just exactly WHAT could POSSIBLY cause the background radiation to suddenly increase?
HMmmm... let me think...
It just COULDN'T be the fact that three nuclear reactor cores are ex-vessel and leaking radioactivity into the Pacific Ocean...
Nah...

"Radiation scare"? Scare? A fivefold increase in radioactivity and they call it a scare?
This is not just a "scare". This is reality! It's "hot" at the coast and the officials are burying their collective heads in the now radioactive sand.

The government is lying to you, (Links for information below). Scientist models show that the radiation from Fukushima hit California, by air, in 8 days, and by sea 30 days.
The rains that dumped on San Francisco after the Explosions at Fukushima was nuclear fallout rain.
A large plume of radiation will arrive in 2014 along with massive amount of debris from Japan. It is also predicted that a large earthquake will hit.
Enenews below is a great source for scientists info and articles around the world.

I hope that you read the above information and make your own decision on the truth. Our government and the Japanese government are not telling you the truth that the US West coast will need to be evacuated. 3 nuclear reactors melted down within days of the earthquake. Reactor 3 is constantly spewing radioactive steam. Air currents go directly to West Coast and can arrive in 3 days. I am sickened and I wish all of you a safe passage. Please pass all these links on and tell everyone!!
