MANILA - Filipinos in Yemen should leave the war-torn country, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.
The DFA said Alert Level 3, which means voluntary repatriation, has been raised in Yemen due to the threat posed by the continued occupation of the capital city Sana'a by Houthi rebels, and the attacks against civilians by separatists and the members of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Alert Level 3 is raised when violent disturbances occur in a limited area of a country.
Under the alert level, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) imposes absolute deployment ban, and Filipinos who are already in Yemen are strongly urged to return to the Philippines, the DFA said.
The Philippine embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which has jurisdiction over Yemen, has sent a crisis management team to help Filipinos who want to be repatriated to the Philippines.
There are around 691 Filipinos in Yemen, with 508 in Sana'a. - with a report from Jay Ruiz, ABS-CBN News
