This movie might have been the turning point away from nuclear war for planet earth. In it, we were able to laugh at ourselves and made us turn away from incredibly depressing movies like "The Beach" which spoke to the end of human life on earth.

Once my generation of Baby Boomers started laughing at this idea we gave up the paranoia of our parents and grandparents and set out to change the world. And we did.

 

However, it looks like a new generation has to stop people like Putin from destroying the planet once again. So, maybe we need another comedy similar to "Dr. Strangelove" updated to today to make us laugh at ourselves today, so this generation can get over 9-11, Ebola, ISIS and Putin the way we got over nuclear war then.
