Tonight, the group take control of the Time machine to fight against Rittenhouse because they don't want to kill Flynn's mother before she has him.

I think this program actually demonstrates a lot like how Time Travel by U.S. and U.N. Agents worldwide operate. There are some priorities to governments worldwide however:

1. prevent the annihilation of earth by nuclear warfare
2. prevent the annihilation of earth from overpopulation
3. prevent the extinction of mankind by any means whatsoever.

These are three of the directives of U.S. and U.N. Time operatives and have been since the 1940s when time travel was made functional after it was discovered in the 1930s and early 1940s.

However, it is also important to know that often there are rogue agents (not connected with any government or directives rather than their own.

There are Planetary Time Police of other times but intersecting with this time as well.
There are Solar System Time police who police whatever happens.
There are Galactic Time police who police all the others.

So, in the end it might be important to know that the earth isn't going to stay destroyed if it is nuked, and the human race won't stay extinct if it is extincted by any means.

That doesn't mean you might not experience extinction in the process before it is prevented.

So, the dreams you might have might seem very realistic because they aren't dreams often but time before it was corrected by Time Agents of the past, present and future.
