A deadly heat wave strikes Japan, hitting areas left without water or electricity from last week’s severe flooding.
At least 14 people died over the weekend, while thousands more received treatment for heat-related illnesses.
Some volunteers fell ill while cleaning up debris left by floodwaters, or while taking part in search and rescue efforts.

Temperatures reached hit triple digits in some areas, and was accompanied by high-humidity.
The weather shows no signs of cooling, leading officials to issue safety guidelines.
“We’re seeing temperatures rise above 86 degrees across a large part of Japan with temperatures hitting 104 degrees in some places,” announced Yoshihide Suga, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary. “I would like people to take extra care to drink water, and take salt in order to prevent heat strokes.”
Japan’s National Weather Service predicts the heat wave will continue through the end of the week.
