NYC Weather Forecast: Flash Floods Possible As City Gets Drenched
NEW YORK, NY — Keep that umbrella handy. Flash floods could hit New York City in the middle of a rain-soaked week that may keep the sun out of sight until Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of potential flash flooding from thunderstorms and showers that could hit from late Tuesday night into Thursday morning.
That's around the time when the worst of this week's weather will strike, the weather service's latest forecast shows. Storms that could produce heavy rain are predicted for Tuesday night and Wednesday, with more than an inch of rain expected to fall from early Wednesday morning to early Thursday morning.
But New Yorkers can expect to get wet before then. Close to a quarter inch of rain will fall by 2 p.m. Monday, with "uncomfortably highhumidity levels" accompanying a high temperature near 81 degrees, according to the weather service.
Things will calm down later in the week, but there's still a chance of showers through Friday night, the forecast says.
