This to me is the real problem beyond anything else regarding keeping the U.S. democracy going.
Citizens owning guns allowed the U.S. come to be. Otherwise it never would have become a democracy. Likewise, when citizens are no longer allowed to own guns the U.S. will become soon a dictatorship. This is the element most people who want to take away guns from citizens haven't thought deep enough about.
More and more people don't believe in God. What does this do? It seems to make people more afraid of guns. Being afraid of guns people want only police and armies to have guns. But, what if the police and armies are not saving you but might turn on you and might shoot you?
Then what do you have? You have a lot of dead Americans and that's all. For me, this is the problem with people not believing in God that they then become more afraid of dying from guns than they are afraid of living in a dictatorship. And then they will lose their civil rights to do anything, and we all will be slaves like we were before the U.S. existed in the 1700s and before.
This is reality but obviously most people don't live in reality and haven't thought all this through.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
