One Reason Interstate 5 is closed and compromised from Redding to Mt. Shasta

When the fire began a few days a go there (The arson set Delta Fire) was a line of traffic including big trucks like logging trucks. Because of the line of traffic stopped the trucks could not be saved and drivers had to run for their lives from the flames. Then many trucks burned but they burned into the highway which likely permanently compromised the Interstate 5 itself because aluminum melted into Interstate 5 from several trucks right into the highway. So, until the fire is out and repairs to the road can begin likely Interstate 5 is going to continue to be closed and Trucks and cars will have to use highway 89 and 299 to get between Mt. Shasta and Redding for the time being.

Locals likely are having to use this method too. There is another route from near Yreka called highway 3 that travels through Trinity lake area. However, the fire is also very near this at some points so this could be dangerous too whereas there are no big fires that I know of on the highway 89 and 299 route to Redding from Mt. Shasta.

Though the highway 3 route is more direct the roads are very windey the whole way to Weaverville and then you would have to drive from Weaverville to Redding on the burned out 299 and I'm not sure if this section is open yet after the Carr fire. So, likely the 89 and 299 Route between Mt. Shasta and Redding would be the best north and south route off of Interstate 5 to take. However, according to Google maps GPS the route between Weaverville to Redding on 299 appears to be open today.
