The Last Kingdom on Netflix is accurate regarding the Battle Eddington in May of 878 AD because it actually happened

King Alfred actually defeated Guthrum the Dane in May of 878 AD. It is interesting in that Wessex that Alfred was the King of in England was the last undefeated kingdom in England at that time. All the rest had fallen to the Danes one by one over time. And I believe from Wessex eventually all England was reclaimed by the Britons from the Danes even though often the Danes like Guthrum simply became Christians and stayed in England and interbred with the Britons because they liked it there better than where they came from.

Here is more on all this both in history and the Netflix series "The Last Kingdom" that my wife and I have watched most of the first season  this last few weeks on Netflix.
