The only way to test your potassium levels that I know of is to get a blood test

Recently I believe I likely was getting potassium poisoning from too much potassium in my system. The problem is that when you are taking Lasix as a diuretic if you don't also take potassium you can be dead within about 2 weeks time from potassium depletion caused by the extreme urine flushing of Lasix.

When I was in the hospital for Atrial fibrillation (note: atrial fibrillation is also a symptom of potassium overdose or poisoning as well as well as heart attacks).

So, trying to get everything in balance some factors were left out as my regular dose of Lasix was raised from about 40 mg or 80 mg a day to 160 milligrams a day after my cardioversion (basically getting tasered through your heart to make it stop atrial fibrillation as a last ditch effort because uncontrolled atrial fibrillation will eventually (after a few weeks of it constantly being there will eventually be fatal.) So, after shocking my whole body and removing this memory from me with a versed IV drip because it is a traumatic event for the body to endure but it was successful in stopping atrial fibrillation.

But, when the lasix dose per day was increased no one told me that there is a limit to what one human body can take in regard to potassium. So, the amount of potassium you are taking for 40 to 80 mg per day cannot just quadruple or double or it could eventually be fatal.

So, you can die from too little potassium but you can also die from too much potassium and this was the problem my daughter ferreted out a couple of days ago to the horror of us all that I was overdosed on Potassium and so experiencing potassium poisoning. So, my solution was to stop taking ANY potassium at all for a few days and then to half the dose so I would be below 100 mg per day of potassium  which is what I found a nurse recommended for most people no matter what your dose is. Some people were upset that I was taking 160 mg a day of lasix too but then again I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall so I can likely take more than someone 5 foot 6 or even five foot 10 inches tall.
