I was watching a TV lady news reporter in Portland yesterday and she couldn't even stand up on the sidewalk without falling down without holding a sign post for stability. Then she kicked one boot forward and she traveled halfway around the signpost with just that much energy to show just how slippery it was there. Most people cannot walk safely outside or travel safely at all in their vehicles.
My older daughter has spent some time in Montana. She says this is more normal there in winters so people have something like Crampons (which are used for walking over hard ice or snow while climbing mountains to walk around town there. My wife bought me a pair of something like this which was mostly spiraled wire attached to stretchy plastic or rubber that fits over your shoes so you don't fall and break something in slippery ice or snow.
Because they aren't used to this much ice or snow in Portland this is a very dangerous situation for many people and all the schools as far as I know are still closed because of it and likely many or most businesses too because people cannot safely get to work in this.
My son's power came on Saturday early Saturday night after dark. However, many people are upset the power is still off since Friday in these freezing temperatures.
