An Extreme version of this likely would be the drones unfolding from carriers (robotic drones like soldiers each carrying a futuristic ray gun sort of like an AR-15 of the future) in some of the STar wars movies.
However, for now likely AI is going to be used more for strategic planning because of the quickness of AI in processing information which can be much faster than any human or even group of humans can process information. However, there are always weaknesses in AI in that AI can make really stupid mistakes because it doesn't have common sense like a human being tends to who has survived a whole bunch of things by the time they are 20 or more years old.
So, AI mistakes may or may not be recovered from, so hopefully they have checks and balances in regard to the AI they use in this sense.
