Aging

If you are a parent 

watching your children

grow up and move away is hard

It is sort of like watching your arm

detach from your body

and go live somewhere else

 

Living

Living is different as you age

when you are young you long 

for retirement

then if you are retired you wonder

why you longed for it

But then there are some moments

when you understand

which makes it all worthwhile 

weather

Weather can show you what is here

But also what is coming

In this way you have perspective

on your life.

Getting up to the sun and the birds singing 

can be wonderful almost wherever you are

Getting up to rain or wind can be okay or neutral

or you wish it would stop raining

 

Pets

In some ways pets like dogs replace your children

when they grow up and move away

In other ways they might feel they are herders

and you are their children

Corgis

Corgis are very familial

But, also very much herders

Ours wants us to stay in bed

So, sometimes she tries to nip at our heals

So, we stay in bed and don't get up in the middle

of the night

 

The Ocean

The ocean is amazing in all the forms it can take

from sunrises to mostly sunsets on the Pacific Ocean

where I live

The ocean eats away the land slowly 

taking away the beaches in the winters with the storms

and hopefully

Bringing the beaches back the next summer and fall

the Mountains

As a young man I longed to live in the Mountains

I felt the "Call of the Wild"

that would satisfy my soul

Like a wild wolf in the wilderness

As an older man I enjoy most of the time more

the ocean because the ocean now gives me peace

Peace is hard to find in the world we now live in
