Most people have already answered this question years ago. However, for those of you who want to know what a techy like myself might buy:
I prefer an iPhone for a variety of reasons. First of all it is simple to use. Second it is intuitive (what does that mean?" It means it is logical and easy for almost any human being to use without reading a whole bunch of technical manuals. So, for me, it is very simple like when I used to own a VW Bug (I had a 1965 and then later a 1966 VW Bug and it was so simple and useful that I could work on it myself and I adjusted the valves religiously every 2000 or 3000 miles so it wouldn't warp or crack a valve and blow the engine up. I owned 2 VW Bugs from 1966 to 1968 when I bought a new 1968 Camaro which was great but I found it expensive to drive long distances from Los Angeles or San Diego to Mt. Shasta for example. However, I also was able to drive this car around 145 miles per hour at one point too which you cannot do with a VW Bug because the max then safe to drive it was likely 75 miles per hour. But, I did like the 30 miles per gallon at 17 cents per gallon at a Mohawk station in San Pedro near my best friends house in Palos Verdes then. (I think minimum wage then was around a (dollar something an hour?)
So, to me, the point of an iPhone is it's intuitive simplicity.
HOWEVER, if you want more techy gear you might want an Android instead if you like reading manuals all the time about how to use all the extra bells and whistles.
I have just found over the years (since I first started to program and operate computers in 1966) that simple is usually more efficient and better. The more complicated something that is a computer device (and a smartphone after all is a computer device) the more simple you want it to be to use.
This is my thoughts on all of this.
However, you might have entirely different desires and experiences and parameters than me because we are all different in how we approach life I find.
So, specifically which model would I buy?
Probably not Version 15 because it has had problems.
I think the best model to buy would be an Iphone 14. Why?
Because it is the first iPHone that can make an emergency call like a satellite phone to get you rescued almost anywhere on earth including out in the middle of the ocean because you can literally make an emergency call to a satellite and get help on land and sea.
So, even though I still am using an iPhone 11 and gave my iPhone 7 to a friend who is still using it the next iPhone I buy will likely be an iPhone 14 because it might rescue me from one of my adventures in life especially because I will be 76 years old soon.
So, if you need a new smartphone I would recommend the iPhone 14 above all others just for simplicity and emergencies. Also, an iPhone is waterproof for a while too. Within the last year I was taking a picture at the beach and because I was standing on too wet sand the sand gave way while taking pictures and I fell because I was concentrating on the pictures rather than my balance at the time. However, the iPhone fell into the ocean next to me. I was recovering a minute or two and thought I still had my iPhone in my hand but it had been in a magnetic case that stops radiation too from the cell phone and it had flipped out of the case in my hand while I was falling and flailing trying to get my balance. So, I found it in about 5 inches deep water and over time it was okay. At first the sounds coming out of the spearkerphone speaker were garbled and underwater but then I put the phone into a pyrex measuring cup full of rice which will absorb the water. So, within a few days it was better and it has been fine ever since. So, even the iPhone 11 is somewhat waterproof also. I couldn't have done this with my iPHone 7 that I gave to a friend who is still using it, for example.
So, good luck choosing the right smartphone for you or other members of your family.
