All you have to do is to see the predicament that McDonald's is in with an 18 dollar Big Mac and having to put out now a 5 dollar happy meal to stay in business because people won't pay 18 dollars for a Big Mac anymore to see that the Restaurant business has out priced almost everyone. People who used to go to a fancy restaurant once a week now go to get burgers instead and people who used to go get burgers now go to food banks instead and people who used to go to food banks are now homeless on the streets and on food stamps without a car. So, there is this downward mobility of people because of food prices now where people are having to choose between having somewhere to live and actually having food to eat.
This is a choice?
It sounds like only a choice between living and dying to me and that's all.
So, Red Lobster closing dozens of outlets is not surprising because of the inflation that is affecting everyone regarding food prices. Restaurants have no control of what they have to pay for their food that they prepare and sell. People have control by choosing whether to pay those prices or not.
But, the result is a lot of McDonalds and other fast food or other restaurants may close now because food is too expensive for people to eat out much anymore.
