Weather is far more unpredictable now than ever before. The main cause of this is actually melting ice and snow and raising temperatures in Oceans around the world. This heat is then transferred to storms with higher winds and higher wind shears. When a plane traveling around 450 miles per hour hits an extreme wind shear people are likely going to be injured or die if they don't have seat belts on.
And if the wind shear is extreme enough and your seat belt fails likely the plane is going to crash anyway.
So, as long as you are flying in a plane (and not getting up to go to the bathroom) you need to loosely have your seatbelt on during the flight or else you could be injured or even die. This is just how people who fly a lot stay out of the hospital.
Actually, the most likely people to be injured from Wind shears are actually the Stewards walking around on the plane. I have seen a stewardess in around 1989 or 1990 on a Flight from the mainland to Maui hit the ceiling and land on passengers and be injured. This happens sometimes so don't let it be you.
