South Korea is a much different experience than Americans think
I found South Koreans to be polite in unexpected ways but also very open and honest in unexpected ways too. They are not really terrorized by North Korea it just sort of makes them sad so many of their relatives are suffering. For example I was told the story of a man in his 70s who doesn't know what happened to his 6 brothers in North Korea. He doesn't know if they are dead or not or whether they had families. He would like to know before he dies what happened to his family. This is the real story of South Koreans which is similar to west Germany before the Berlin Wall fell.
