I actually found this poll very surprising. However, how it is explained is the American people don't want to get involved in other countries wars, generally speaking. However, this poll goes on:
In the Middle East should the U.S. side with Palestine? 2% say yes.
Neither: 66% say yes to this.
Israelis might think something else is going on entirely. However, Americans don't want to get involved in other people's wars. However, if Israel was being attacked and people were being massacred there this also could change in the drop of a hat too.
At the very least the U.S. and NATO would be involved in a mass evacuation of Jewish people out of Israel at that point or more.
