America is a paradox and always has been. First of all, the United States of America simply could not exist as the free nation it is if it weren't for free citizens owning guns. During the revolutionary war citizens picked off British Soldiers kind of like Snipers all the time. This was one reason we won this war and even though we are friends with England now, it was sort of like a family squabble back then because of the Madness of King George of England. Because of the mad king in England then we have the United States of America. Likely we wouldn't otherwise.
But, everyone who understands where the rubber meets the road also understands that within 50 to 75 years of guns for citizens being illegal we likely would be living in a world wide Dictatorship where there would be no rights at all: even to be alive. This is just a given.
It is likely that without an armed America no nation would exist as a free nation on earth.
So yes, is it awful that a person can go kill 58 people by breaking the law and modifying his weapons?
Yes.
But, just understand how he modified his weapons was illegal and that laws wouldn't have stopped this man or any other man buying guns on the black market whether ANY guns were illegal or not and then illegally modifying them to be fully automatic like a submachine gun and killing 58 people or more when he broke his window on the 32nd floor and just started shooting.
The guns this man owned were completely illegal. That should be your first clue about all this. Which means whether guns were illegal or not this man would have done this anyway.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
