Safe back on mainland from Hawaii: 92 Degrees with light rain when I left

If you have ever been in 92 degrees Fahrenheit in full humidity in a rain storm you won't forget it, especially if you can't get into air conditioning real soon.

But, never the less this is what was happening as we prepared to leave the Lahaina area  today on Maui. We said good bye to the huge Banyon Tree in front of the historical center on one side and the movie theater in the complex the other direction that I think I saw Back to the Future either 2 or 3 or maybe both when I lived on the island in 1989 and 1990 when my kids were 7 months, 15 and 16 and my oldest son decided to stay on the mainland and finish high school there instead. So he graduated in 1990 form High school there in California.

But, today driving south towards Kahului and our flight home to San Francisco the waves were crashing over the barriers and onto the highway. I was thinking "This is pretty crazy because we are on the leeward and desert side of the Island and it's doing this?

I realized rising sea levels are playing havoc with the Hawaiian islands too just like anywhere connected to an ocean now on earth because of Global Warming now in High Gear with only rich people trying to make more money ignoring science completely at this point.

Also, my wife was talking to locals and what happened this year is that June and July were unseasonably cool which appears to have shifted their climate to the hottest part to Late August, September and October and maybe November too.

Even where we were staying has had no air conditioning and (didn't really need it) until this year.

So, workmen were installing it because people (older over 50, 60, 0r 70) often just melt and pass out in these kinds of temperatures with full humidity. Even I had to take cold showers just to keep my brain working.

However, the snorkeling at Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach was the best I have ever seen it with at least 20 species of fish visible and the snorkeling in front of where I"m staying was also the best I've ever seen there too. But, if you don't have air conditioning in 92 degrees with full humidity please don't overdo. I saw someone jogging in this and hoped she was a local used to high temperatures and humidity and not someone from the mainland who was going to collapse after a 1 to 5 mile run in these temperatures and humidity.

Also, i realized the road south of Lahaina  heading to Kihei and Kahului Airport eventually will have to be raised 5 to 10 feet or it will have waves crashing over onto it in the future too, especially near where everyone Camps and surfs along there and further down.

So, if you don't have air conditioning there be careful if you are not used to this type of climate. In your hotel room (without Air Conditioning) you can always take a cold shower to keep going. The problem becomes when older people are out and about and their brain stops working and then they are in trouble if they are on foot.

So, if I wasn't snorkeling I was either in my room, a restaurant or driving in air conditioning to somewhere beautiful. Even with the top down on my rented muscle car I could run the air conditioning in my face to keep my brain working.

The coldest temperature day or night I ever saw on Kauai or Maui was 74 degrees once on Kauai and once on Maui. So, even when it rains now it is hot. But, that might be another way to cool down is to walk in the rain in shorts and thongs to cool down. Even in 74 degrees it might be okay to do this if the wind isn't too high and blowing the rain.
