"If I don't believe what I need to believe to survive both physically and psychologically, then logically I will not survive as a human being here on earth."
The above statement is the most important statement in many ways for a human to consider if they want to stay alive and have a useful and happy life.
However, the question many or most get involved in is not one that necessarily keeps you alive. Here is that question:
Do I believe in God or not?
This question isn't going to keep you alive and likely it might just confuse you in the short or long run.
A secondary version of this might be:
Do I believe in Buddha or not?"
But, in a way both questions (depending upon which part of the world you live in) are really the same question in different cultural contexts.
So, unless you ask the first question you may not be alive very long in a human body here on earth.
It doesn't matter what you believe in if you are dead much does it?
Unless you believe there is an afterlife.
I have noticed that most people capable of being happy long term either believe in God or Buddha or both.
This is just a life long observation.
Does this necessarily mean God or Buddha are ultimately real?
No.
It means that unless people believe in one or the other or both often they self destruct quickly or slowly somewhere along the way.
I'm thinking it is the need for a parental figure or someone to look up to that human beings naturally need in their lives.
In a way it is like sucking your thumb when there is no breast around to suck on as a child. It is a self comforting thing people need to do.
So, having the compassion for yourself to understand your basic needs can keep you psychologically and physically alive.
Not understanding your basic needs as a human being only makes you crazy and dead before your time.
In a way it doesn't even matter what the ultimate truth is because if you are dead what does it matter?
Unless you believe in an after life.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
