If you are looking for relief from the heat

When it heats up inland it draws the ocean air and fog "high and low" off the ocean. So, the hotter it gets inland the foggier it gets from Big Sur all the way up to Crescent City, California and beyond. So, when you see it's 120 degrees in Palm Springs and 123 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley tomorrow you can almost be sure it is going to be much cooler along the northern California coast.
