The sulfur dioxide is more of a game changer than the carbon dioxide in the short-term.
So, if the Sulfur dioxide that you now see in Hawaii from the volcanoes there was covering the whole U.S. mainland that might change the whole environment on earth in a serious way. However, it is good that the sulfur dioxide is limited to the Island of Hawaii for the most part. (at least for right now).
