It is most important to be a master of yourselves first.
Because being a master of others might just mean that you are a Slave Master which likely isn't a good thing.
When I'm around people for more than "Hello or Goodbye" or Have a Nice Day or something like that I observe whether people are presently manifesting slave behavior or master behavior or are in transition from one to the other.
Because people can be anywhere in any given moment.
There are masters falling into being slaves usually through alocohol, drugs or bad behavior.
There are slaves becoming masters, by learning to be self disciplined.
But, here's the thing. You never want to follow a slave because that can be fatal.
And following a master might just mean that that person likes to control people with no enlightenment at all.
So, though slaves can get you killed if you follow them, Masters if they are ONLY into controlling people for money and profit or something like that are just using you and that's all.
So, it is always better to be your own master and not be a slave to anyone.
BE the Captain of your own ship and master of your own destiny.
This is where enlightenment really is.
If you are compassionate to yourself you might also be compassionate to others.
If you are compassionate to others you might also be compassionate to yourselves.
