Shasta it was cold during the summers and winters as a result and sunsets were often strange colors like Purple, and blue, green and strange shades of Orange and like that. So, our temperatures were at least 10 degrees below normal year around for several years after Mt. Saint Helens erupted then. This is what happens when enough powder from eruptions stays in the air for years and circles the globe on the prevailing winds.
Some places to the east of the eruption in Washington and Oregon and further east had 2 to 3 feet deep of the eruption powder everywhere they went in their areas and cities and farms. However, within 5 years this type of powder is also the most efficient thing to grow food in known to man too so far.
