I think more than anything else it's a choice.
People often say " Oh. We will colonize Mars!" Well. If you actually study the science of doing that it isn't as practical as you might think.
First of all, Mars doesn't have a magnetosphere to protect anyone on the surface from Cosmic Rays. Even here on earth since 2000 AD or so we don't have protection in either of the Polar Circles from Cosmic Rays either, (which could be a sign of us moving into a Geomagnetic reversal) here no earth by the way if you are interested in studying more about that.
So, in order to even THINK about reproducing as humans on Mars likely males and females might need to wear lead belts around their sperm and ovums while traveling there in space, then get to Mars and only live underground deeper than 10 feet until they reproduced and then the children (if they also wanted to have children) would have to stay underground (minimum 10 feet) until they grew up and had children as well (otherwise just being on the surface of Mars would sterilize them).
So, for now, here on earth closer to the equator than the Arctic and AntArctic Circles is the only place I know of (locally here in the Solar System) where people can actually still have kids. (without living underground on the moon or Mars or other planets to prevent Cosmic Rays from Sterilizing them permanently. For example, all male and female astronauts are sterilized the first time they blast off into space from Cosmic Rays. It has always been this way. So, this is why astronauts usually have their kids before they blast off into space because they aren't going to have any afterwards.
So, if you and I don't save earth as a place to have babies then there won't be anymore babies ever will there? And if we don't preserve earth as a place to reproduce there won't be anymore humans will there?
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
