If you are traveling in California it's important to check to see which national or state forest areas or recreation areas are open now. The fire fighters have been decimated by smoke inhalation, injuries and Covid and so can't afford any other fires to start because they simply cannot handle any more now.
So, checking ahead will save you a lot of disappointment. Places like Horse Camp, Climbing Mt. Shasta, Panther Meadows and even Castle Lake are likely closed now until September 17th to prevent any more fires caused by people.
Other areas of the state might have closed their National or state forests or recreation areas too so you might want to check before you go literally anywhere backwoods or fun in California. This could also be true in other states as well as California often leads other states in these kinds of things because there are 40 million Californians and it is a very rich and progressive state.
