This has been pretty obvious to me all my life. When I grew up believing in God was normal and people often looked at you sideways out of the corner of their eyes if you told them you were an atheist. So, not telling people you were an atheist in the 1950s was one way to get a good job. Otherwise many people likely wouldn't hire you if you were too honest about being an atheist. But, this was the 1950s not now. Everything has changed now on earth from this type of thinking.
But, what is obvious to me (all along) is that everyone lives or dies because of their belief system (whether they have one or not) and the more confused a person is the more likely they are going to die young.
I would say no matter what your belief system is or completely lack of one having integrity with yourself and all the others in your life is important. Without integrity we often hit places where we aren't going to survive our lives.
This is not a perfect science but it helps to be around other people with integrity too, otherwise we lessen our chances for survival if we are lying to ourselves AND hanging out with people who also lie to themselves too.
So, from my point of view it isn't totally about whether someone believes in God or not it's about having integrity and treating yourself and your children and family as fairly and as kindly as possible.
Most people who don't do this just don't live very long I have observed.
Kindness is the true basis of all useful civilizations on earth. Otherwise they usually don't last very long.
