This is true of many or most vacationers who go there. I think it's the fact that you can wake up at 4:30 in the morning this time of year in places like Maui and basically be outside on a veranda taking pictures because it is still 67 degrees Fahrenheit so you can be comfortable in shorts or pajamas and a robe outside at 4:30 am. I took a photo of the moon from our veranda and because I have an Iphone 11 it does an automatic time lapse photo of a few seconds. So, on top of this even from California it is 3 hours difference than California. If you are coming from the East Coast of the U.S. then it can be 3 hours or so more so around 6 hours difference. It probably would be less of a jolt going to Europe from East Coast U.S. than going to Hawaii jet lag wise. But, even from California, everyone I was traveling with is still having a hard time adjusting to California weather and time changes still. And this is still true of my wife and I as well, especially because we had a really good time there this time. Last Fall we went to Kauai and I couldn't get one of my medicines the right dose for traveling so I was sick on Kauai mostly last fall. So, this trip to Maui I was able to balance my health much better so it was a really good experience this time.
Here are some I found online of Maui Moon photos taken at night from Google Images:
