So, they had a lot to say about why the Bayesian Sank.
Their best Idea is that it had a retractable keel so it could go into shallow places in ports without dragging their keel on the sand or rocks or whatever was there on the bottom.
So, when the Wave and rain and waterspout over turned them they had no keel or ballast to right them and because they were not expecting this fluke storm likely all the hatches were open because in the summer there on Sicily it can be very hot (even if they did have air conditioning which is debatable whether or not they were running a generator to run air conditioning because the noise of that would have kept everyone awake.

So, in all likelihood the hatches were open and the keel retracted so they were completely unprepared for this fluke event that hit them and sunk them to the bottom which I believe is about 165 feet deep where they were. But, most likely for some reason they had a retractable keel and it was up so the ship couldn't right itself from the weight of the keel when it went over from the mast blowing down or breaking.
My wife sailed on her father Concordia which was the best wooden yawl of the 1960s era and a little before and after. But, since then most people have now gone with either aluminum or fiberglass or cement or whatever they found useful to make boats out of now.
But, the best wooden Yawl under around 50 feet in the 1960s when I learned to sail my cousin's Columbia 22 that slept 6 people the best thing people wanted then was a Concordia because it was so beautiful even though it was a high maintenance boat just like all wooden boats can be whereas generally speaking Fiberglass and aluminum boats are the most maintenance free boats to own if you are a sailor and into Sailing.
