The idea of Freedom of Religion as well as the Protestant Faith came partly from what happened to the Cathars

 If you study history you can see this as the beginning of the pushback on the then very corrupt Catholic chuch where rich people could literally buy their way into heaven after killing their wives and children and all sorts of things like this at that time. So, the rich buying their way to heaven likely began the whole freedom of Religion movement which made so many people in England and Europe move to Philadelphia in the U.S. for religious freedom. It was the fount of religious freedom by the early 1700s then. My relatives came from Zurich Switzerland to Philadelphia too for Religious freedom around 1720.
