I went to see "The Wrath of the Titans" in 2D today. Both my son and I have had bad experiences from watching 3D movies. So we prefer to watch movies in 2d to avoid the headaches or vertigo that many people get from watching 3d movies for the next day or two after watching the movie.
A lot of people said it wasn't a good movie but I thought it was pretty awesome. However, it is sort of like the movie "Dune" years ago. If you don't seriously get Greek Mythology or know the story of Perseus and Zeus and Andromeda and the Kracken and of Chronos and Hades then you might be lost throughout the movie. I thought it was interesting that when a Greek God dies it's over: period. However, when human dies his or her soul goes on and on. I thought this was a very ancient and interesting concept to deal with. And I didn't know before that Zeus and Hades and Poseidon were all brothers and the sons of Chronos who is one of the Titans. This was also a new concept to me. There was also the idea that volcanic eruptions had to do with Chronos. And I could see the people of the time trying to grasp and to anthropomorphize physical events of weather, wind and volcanic eruptions and storms and seas and of death and the temporary nature of human life here on earth. Having studied cultural anthropology I found the whole movie incredibly interesting from about 100 different angles.
However, if you didn't know much about Greek mythology you would be completely lost watching this movie and you might like the special effects but it mostly would be "WTF?" for most people watching it other than liking the special effects and the fighting and Perseus kissing Andromeda and stuff like that.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future

Tornado tosses Truck Trailers in Dallas
Tornadoes strike Dallas-Fort Worth area
Washington Post - 3 hours ago
At least two reported tornadoes tore through the Dallas area Tuesday, tossing trucks in the air and leaving crumpled tractor-trailers strewn along highways ...
VIDEO: Texas tornado tosses truck trailers Bluefield Daily TelegraphTexas tornado: Twister tosses truck trailers WPTV
Baltimore Sun - The Star-Ledger - NJ.com
end quotes from Google News:
As you will see from the video(s) of truck trailers tossed hundreds of feet into the air, the tornado in Dallas was pretty scary. This is also exactly what a tornado can do to a mobile home anywhere in "Tornado Alley". So, when a tornado is coming a trailer or mobile home won't be safe if the wind speeds are 150 mph or more and even sketchy between 100 and 150 mph. By the way these are 80 foot long empty Semi Truck Trailers being tossed hundreds of feet into the air in Dallas.
If you look at the weather prediction reports and computer models of the years to come caused by Global Climate change the prognosis is not good for anywhere in "Tornado Alley" in the U.S.

In the latest quotes judges are starting to get nervous about Obama's attack on the Supreme Court in regard to what he says about Judges "overreaching their authority".
Begin quote:
During oral arguments in Houston in a separate challenge to another aspect of the federal health care law, U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jerry Smith said Obama's comments troubled a number of people who have read them as a challenge to the authority of federal courts.
"I'm
referring to statements by the president in the past few days to the
effect, I'm sure you've heard about them, that it is somehow
inappropriate for what he termed unelected judges to strike acts of Congress
that have enjoyed, he was referring of course to Obamacare, to what he
termed a broad consensus and majorities in both houses of Congress,"
Smith told Dana Kaersvang, an attorney with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.
On
Monday, Obama issued a direct challenge to the Supreme Court, saying he
didn't believe the high court would take the "unprecedented" step of
overturning a law passed by a strong majority of Congress. end quote from:

Like I said at the end of the top Blog article titled "Most Constitutional Lawyers think Obamacare will pass", it is fairly obvious that Obama and the entire Democratic Party are planning to take on the Supreme Court if they vote down Obamacare as overreaching. A similar battle occurred between FDR and the Supreme Court in which FDR won the Public opinion battle and the course of the court was changed by this evolution of the sentiment of the people because of the crisis of the Great Depression and so many starving to death here in this country. Then as now it is likely that the Supreme Court might not stand up to public opinion in this case either.
This likely will turn into some kind of Constitutional Crisis. The courts handling of Bush Vs. Gore in the 2000 election and its handling of the case regarding Superpacs has turned many if not most people in this country against the Supreme Court during the last 12 years. So, just like the Congress, the Supreme Court been held in disrepute by the people of the United States for the last 12 years.
This is the source of the problem. Thousands of people across the United States have been promised life by the Passing of Obamacare. These people instead of preparing for death have been given hope. If Obamacare fails it means most of these people will die next year or the year after. All these people and all their relatives and all their friends will likely rise up against the Supreme Court if Obamacare falls.
It is inevitable that there will be some kind of Constitutional Crisis generated by all these potential deaths from non-treatment of their illnesses that will be fatal without Obamacare. And likely Obama will ride the wrath of those suffering and dying into the White House again.
So, whether Obamacare is voted up or down there will be some sort of crisis. The worst and most immediate one that would have the most short term extreme effect would be if it was voted down. If it passes it will be another Roe Vs. Wade to the Conservative Wing of the Republican Party for the next 30 to 50 years. But that will be a slow burn. If it is voted down it could be very very serious in its short term consequences to our nation and since it could bankrupt our nation if it is voted down by the courts it could also could signal the potential end of our nation economically.
My Maha Kala Dog
I spent a lot of time especially between 1983 and 1987 with Tibetan Lamas in California, Oregon, India and Nepal. One of the new concepts that I took into my world was of a Maha Kala Protector Dog (or other animal or possibly Bird that become a type of protector for you). I met a Dog that belonged to a Tibetan Lama. It lived next door to a Restaurant that a Lama prayed for and I found this dog to be very special and unlike most other dogs I had ever met. So, sometime after that I thought that some day I would have a Maha Kala Protector dog too. Almost 20 years passed and both my wife and I decided that we wanted to get a dog for ourselves and our daughter. So, one day I was at a Video Store and outside the Humane Society had dogs up for adoption in large cages. I walked over to one dog in a cage that was beautiful and about 2 years old. It was the most intelligent dog I had ever seen. I bent down and looked into his eyes and he seemed to be the soul come again of my father's dog who was a huge German Shepard just before my father passed away. I knew even though I had never been allowed to own a dog as a child that this was going to be my dog. So, I adopted the dog and brought him home. The only trouble was that exactly the same day my wife had found "Her" special dog too. So, we decided to keep both dogs. My dog was a German Shepard and Australian Shepard mix and her dog was a Corgi and Jack Russel Mix. So, the dog had more the body shape of a Corgi with the coloring of a Jack Russel. Her dog was very eccentric and I had a hard time getting used to her. Her name was Maggie May. My dogs name was "Furby" like the Chinese toy likely because when he was a puppie he likely was a beautiful ball of fur. His coat was soft and this indoors was a problem because he was always (year around) "blowing Coat" (shedding). However, petting him was always incredible for anyone that met him. And he has very soulful eyes that makes everyone fall immediately in love with him. He has to be the single most intelligent dog I have ever met.
About 6 years ago Maggie May got into a fight with a Raccoon in our yard that neither won and likely eventually both died. Maggie lasted about 1 month and got kidney failure and we put her asleep with an IV from the doctor as we petted her and watched the life slip from her eyes. Her ashes are still on our large book case in our living room still 6 years later which shows all our attachment to Maggie May. Furby was lost without Maggie May as she was the ruling Bitch as she was the elder dog and used to getting her own way. Furby was always very intelligent. When Maggie got into it with a Raccoon the look in Furby's eyes was "What are you doing, Maggie? That thing will kill you." But she was always very brave but no one ever accused her of being smart too. But my wife and daughter were very upset when my daughters babysitter left her outside after dark and Maggie May eventually died because of it.
When Furby, the 75 pound German Shepard, Australian Shepard mix first came into our lives he was trying to outsmart me as he was only about 17 months old. If he hadn't been fixed he might have been too much for anyone but a Dog Whisperer to handle. But luckily for me he was before we got him. He tried to tell me that he was the alpha dog and I was the beta Dog in the family pack. So, I worried at first that I might not be able to control him. But then something happened. He stole a whole large Pizza that we were about to eat off the stove which forced me to scare him within an inch of his life. After that, I was always the Alpha dog and he was the Beta Dog and we have been best friends ever since. However, he just loves my son who is now 37 years old. Whenever my son stays with us he sleeps just outside his bedroom door and if my son lets him in he will lie on the floor next to my son.
Sometimes, it is like my father is there in the dog still protecting my son as my father deeply loved my son like that too. I have always felt that God put Furby in my life to protect me and my family. Everyone that has met him falls in love with him and many many people have begged me to sell him to them or give him to them. But Furby is a member of my family. So, I'm very grateful that God gave me a Maha Kala Protector dog like the one I met in Nepal.

Channeling April 3rd 2012
This will be a cautionary tale about Channeling. My father and my Aunt and many people I grew up with were into listening to the Channellings through Mr. Ballard until he passed away in 1939 and Mrs. Ballard until she passed away in the early 1970s. My father and my Aunt were two of these people. Though my mother listened to these channellings as well, she was more already there herself where she experienced God and Angels all the time and didn't really need to listen to live or recorded channellings by anyone. However, because she was married to my father she was loyal to what he was loyal to as well.
Now, my daughter who is very like my father is a part of a group based upon channelling. I have told her that ideally it is better if you want to listen to channelling that you do it yourself. The main reason for this is clarity. Whenever you listen to a channel you have to be concerned about the clarity of what you receive. It is not just the words because often there is what some people call radiation involved as well. If you have been to church and experienced a charismatic minister you will know what I am talking about. Often the radiation(Grace) (Healing power) of God is present along with the channeling. So, clarity is often very important in how it affects your life, your genetics on into the future for thousands of years. So, making sure what you are participating in is as clear and as useful as possible for both yourself, your family, and your friends is very important.
I have had my whole life to think about things like this but many people are new to all this and can easily go off on one tangent or another which might if they are not balanced enough take away their sanity or their life eventually.
For example, I have known people who joined the church I was raised in to go to a class with Mrs. Ballard in Shasta Springs and then after class while still wearing a white suit, white shoes, white tie go up on Mt. Shasta and think that they were going to ascend into the Ascended Masters realms and since even during the summer temperatures on the mountain go below freezing just before morning they were found a few weeks later passed on on the mountain. Now, some people might say, "Oh. They believed they were going to God and so they did." However, my reaction might be that, "They were so delusional that they committed suicide because they were so anxious to pass over." So, how might God deal with all that since they were sincere? Only God can answer that in the end. It is between them and their maker. However, for me, doing something like that is just impractical and I believe God wants us all to be practical because I deeply believe "God Helps Those who Help Themselves!"
Recently, I found myself in a Fund Raiser at the most expensive to join Country Club in my County surrounded by TV personalities and millionaires and very successful people for likely the best Private School in the County where I live. And I said to myself suddenly, "What in the World Am I doing here?" And God came to me and said, "Fred. I have worked on you all your life to get you here right now. Don't worry about it!" I had to laugh at myself because I actually understood that moment. God has taught me how to BE. And so as my wife was donating and helping with the fund raiser I was just talking to my friends, having a wonderful time and just Being there among all these rich and famous people. And then I thought to myself, "Yes God. I get it!"

Answering a question about Soul Travel and Panic Attacks
I
came across this post when I was searching for soul travel and panic
attacks. At night sometimes I wake up with a panic attack, and I have an
intutitive feeling it's due to my soul traveling, but I can't remember
anything.
I do believe all of what intuitivefred says here, but it doesn't scare
me. I agree 100% that most people don't know this and it scares them if
you tell them. Mostly, they would just think you're crazy. Everyone will
find out in their own time anyway. on My Experience of Soul Travel
An anonymous visitor was reading (word button above) "My Experience of Soul Travel" and left this comment. I came across it again tonight and thought I might write something helpful to people having panic attacks around soul travel.
I think it is important when dealing with all this to be as holistic as possible and to not be fragmented when dealing with this kind of issue in your life. For some people prayer or meditation helps to bring all of a person into one place or state of consciousness. This can be helpful. Even though I found after God allowed me to Consciously Soul travel that ultimately Time and space are not ultimately real but much more like going to a movie more than anything else. Though this might be disturbing to many people to understand this nevertheless it appears to be a fact of life. Before I experienced this I always thought it took effort to get from point A to point B. However, then once I realized that time and space were not ultimately real and that the ultimate state of the universe is only Being and States of Consciousness and that there really is only one Being present in the universe that some call God then the whole universe and all universes and all time and space could be seen as a serious game that God plays with himself to entertain himself or herself or itself. But if you want to be able to live in a physical body here on earth and not just die you at the very least have to pretend that living in a human body here on earth is real or else you will die. So, I pretend that the human body that my soul presently resides in is real because that appears to be what God wants me to do. However, at core I experience the truth. In fact, this appears to be the ultimate defense mechanism for someone who has mastered this realization of truth. If someone attacks you in any way all you have to do is to undo physical reality into pure being which is okay for you because you know the truth. I think Jesus did stuff like this and Buddha and many others as well.
When I studied with Tibetan Lamas they explained to me how important with all this it is that you not accidentally literally scare people to death who aren't ready to experience all this. So, out of politeness you try to protect their sensibilities so they don't die of panic or heart attacks if the full truth of being becomes evident to them suddenly.
Later: The following are things that I learned mostly after soul traveling over 10 years when I first started to study with Native American Medicine Men and Tibetan Lamas in the U.S., India and Nepal. What I learned that I didn't know before regarding soul travel is just how many gifted people in all cultures do this. That was the first thing that became obvious to me. So, this means that thousands to millions of people worldwide are aware when they soul travel and what it is. So, you have all 7 billion people soul traveling and not really knowing that every time they think about anything they are soul traveling and then you have millions or more people who do understand what is happening. So, the question actually becomes whether all these conscious soul travelers are nice and polite and civilized. The answer is "Yes" usually if they are sane. And here is the rub. It only takes one insane person or one person out for revenge sort of like a man with a gun out there to make it difficult for everyone else. Because usually people who misuse these gifts from God are going to die badly within a few years or less, they can create a great deal of havoc for anyone they become aware of. So, having your spiritual protection and angels helping you is very important in regard to all this. People who are agnostic or atheistic actually are safer in this respect than people who are not. The problem with being agnostic or atheistic is accidents often happen to them that maim them or kill them often because they do not know how to ask for help or won't ask for help and so very often they are maimed or die unnecessarily. This just tends to be a pragmatic fact of life. And Agnostic or atheistic people wind up usually as ghosts and earthbound after they die which usually isn't fun. I have walked through graveyards and seen their gray blobs of protoplasm above their graves. "Their souls say things like, 'I don't believe in God so I must be dead'. If you don't believe you don't get rescued until you do as a soul. This is very problematic for many souls but also the way things happen.
I talked to a lady raised in San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County California who stayed in the Yucatan in Mexico and met one of these ghosts who likely was a pirate or criminal when her mother rented a place near the ocean in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Everyone in the area knows the Ghost is there because he haunts everyone who goes and stays at this particular house. Many have seen him walk up out of the ocean like something from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (no kidding!). Also, the lady said she was 14 or 15 at the time and she felt the male ghost in her room and touching her legs and thighs and pulled the covers up above her head. Later when she had convinced her mother to leave this place she stepped on a human jawbone that was outside the house and freaked out from that too. So, possibly either this guy was murdered there or he was there because he murdered a bunch of people there. But either way, to say this guy is a dead ghost atheist is very likely. Because people who have experienced God don't usually act this way because they have the fear of God or at least the respect for God and all his creations. Whereas sometimes Ghosts don't believe in anything but their own power and think about people sort of like ants and treat them like most people treat ants. And it is not fun to be on the receiving end of this kind of thing if you don't have spiritual protection of some kind.
As a result of this I have learned to only soul travel if God gives me a mission because once I went out just exploring for no really good reason but that I was bored and almost died soul traveling, even though I had been doing this for about 15 years consciously. After that experience I decided that this is not stuff to play around with. It actually is for people who are spiritual pilgrims or people who are monks, nuns, ministers and other people who have dedicated themselves to helping other people and helping souls get to where they need to go by God's Grace.
One of the most interesting things is that I was allowed to experience the Heaven realms around Earth. I wasn't allowed to go in but I was allowed to look in. And what I found completely surprised me and permanently changed me. It turns out that every religion and belief system has its own set of heavens for those of that belief and even subsections for people who die in a given area and era so they can be together if they wish. So, I found this to be very surprising on one level and yet very logical on another level. Every religion based upon some form of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" has a heaven." And people who kill people just because of their religion don't usually have a nice experience afterwards when they die. So, reality is way different than almost any religion seems to say. I think the main reason for this is money. If priests and ministers didn't tell people that they can't get to heaven except in the specific religion or church the priests and ministers of all religions couldn't make a living and feed their families too. So, I think this is really sad for everyone. Because even though Priests and ministers can then feed themselves and their families it really is going to confuse people when they die and find out that literally every religion has heavens. And Beyond that even people who are good to others generally are okay in the after life. Only people who are bad to others and themselves seem to have problems after death.
Later: The reason that I write like this is that even if you are not presently experiencing all this eventually in this lifetime or after or at some future time likely you will have to deal with all this. So, in the meantime if all this freaks you out just pretend it is like Greek Mythology or something like that that is entertaining to study. Actually, Greek Mythology I have found to be sort of a hidden message of the way things are in some ways. Each culture tries to describe what they universe is. And in some ways they all are right. It is like 9 blind man describing through their touching an elephant what it is while they touch different parts. That is what I have found to be true.
Later: The following are things that I learned mostly after soul traveling over 10 years when I first started to study with Native American Medicine Men and Tibetan Lamas in the U.S., India and Nepal. Actually, Greek Mythology I have found to be sort of a hidden message of the way things are in some ways. Each culture tries to describe what they universe is. And in some ways they all are right. It is like 9 blind man describing through their touching an elephant what it is while they touch different parts. That is what I have found to be true.
My UFO Experiences
I hadn't gone to an Eye Doctor for some time because I really don't like having my eyes dilated. However, I found out that if I pay the extra 39 dollars and get a retinal scan I can avoid having dilation solution put into my eyes so that is what I did. The other thing I found interesting was that computers can get your prescription pretty close by just watching when your eyes focus on things. Then the eye doctor just fine tunes that.
So, as I was going into have my retinal scans the lady mentioned something about UFOs and then showed me her large Lady of Guadalupe tattoo of Mary as a green alien which I thought was pretty interesting on her upper arm. So, for me this meant she was really into little green aliens so I began to share my UFO experiences. Real UFO experiences like Reagan and Carter have had freak some people out a lot so I don't share this kind of thing lightly as I try to protect people who can't handle the truth from freaking out. We were talking about how the government uses misinformation to prepare the general public for contact with aliens while at the same time trying to pretend things aren't the way they are. The general idea (at least for the U.S. Government and many European and other governments appears to be that) if they don't admit that aliens exist then many of the religious people that take their holy books literally won't go insane and completely freak out all over the world and collapse the Stock markets of the world and stuff like that just like when 7 people died when Orson Wells read "War of the Worlds I think it was on Halloween 1939. The government never forgot just how insane it got when people thought what he was reading on the radio was real live News on the East Coast of the U.S.
Anyway, I was talking to her about my UFO experiences because she was obviously really into learning more about this kind of stuff. So, I shared with her my experience in 1974 and my next experience in 1992 which both took place in Mt. Shasta. And then I also shared with her about something I heard from an entertainer when he landed his plane in Klamath Falls, Oregon because the fog was too thick to land in Medford where he was supposed to put on a show.
The first story was just after my son was born in 1974 and I walked up on Mt. Shasta through the snow which was a minimum of 5 to 10 feet deep with a crust on top so I could walk without sinking in much with my boots. I was early June likely because my son had been born in May and I wanted to go up on the mountain to pray for my son's long life. As I came back down into Bunny Flats on Everitt Memorial Hiway I noticed something unusual in the snow. At first I thought it was made by a snowmobile until I realized there were no snowmobile tracks there or even human tracks there except my own. So, as I looked closer I noticed and paced it off as a diameter of about 25 to 30 feet across. Along the upper part of the circle was about 1 foot of slime that looked like someone had mixed antifreeze with black algae and spread it out uniformly. Then it went down into a saucer shaped dish in the snow. But then at the very bottom there were three hemispheres about 3 feet in diameter each so it was like an imprint of a landing pod or something. I realized that the only way humans could have made this would have been to create a template this shape and then hang it by a chain from a helicopter and drop it hard into the snow to create this effect. Since this was completely illogical and since it was overcast and trying to snow and wasn't there when I had walked up on the mountain I was left with only one conclusion that made any sense at all. A saucer had landed here sometime between when I went up on the mountain and when I had returned. So, I went down to town and brought back up a friend and my wife and new baby son to witness this. They all agreed with me that there simply was no other explanation that made any real sense but that it was an imprint of a flying saucer. We all agreed not to tell the authorities about this because people who did things like that often then disappeared and were never heard from by Anyone ever again during the 1970s. So, since I wanted my son to grow up we decided to say nothing.
Later in 1992 it was summertime likely July or August and a warm in the afternoon without a cloud in the sky. I heard a cacophony of sounds of helicopter blade tips breaking the sound barrier likely because of flying at this altitude (I was at 3500 feet so they had to be 4500 to 5500 feet or more) So the air was thin and this likely why it was so very loud. There were three Chinook double bladed troop carrier helicopters like those used in Viet Nam that can carry 40 or more troops in formation above our home. The helicopters stopped in formation after I went outside to look. Amazingly, there was a silver flying saucer of the same size that I saw the print of up at Bunny flats in 1974. I made myself not blink because I knew this was a once in a lifetime experience until my eyes were burning. Finally, it disappeared without a sound. After thinking about this a couple of years I came to the conclusion that I had witnessed time travel because I couldn't figure out how it could have disappeared without a sound otherwise. After the saucer disappeared the three unmarked Grey helicopters with no marks or call signs of any kind stayed in formation and flew up Hiway 89 in the direction of Nevada from the little City of Mt. Shasta. I could not believe that our government was so audacious to do something like this in broad daylight where anyone could see on a beautiful summer afternoon without a cloud in the sky.
I'm not sure what this lady thought about all this. I knew she was obviously into UFOs but you never know what people will do with information like this. Besides, I have now had almost 38 years to get used to the idea of my first experience and 20 years now to get used to my second experience. However, since I now believe that I witnessed time travel I believe that the U.S. Government has had access to time travel at the very latest since 1992 if not since World War II or earlier. This makes more sense that no nuclear war has blown the planet up yet if we have had this technology likely since 1992 or even World War II or earlier. At this point I accept Time Travel on earth as a given. Not realizing it is likely here might interfere with people's survival ability. It is only practical to assume this sort of thing is going on and has been going on for some time already.

Stephen Hawking's New iBrain
A Little Device That’s Trying to Read Your Thoughts
By DAVID EWING DUNCAN
Published: April 2, 2012
SAN DIEGO — Already surrounded by machines that allow him, painstakingly, to communicate, the physicist Stephen Hawking last summer donned what looked like a rakish black headband that held a feather-light device the size of a small matchbox.

Called the iBrain, this simple-looking contraption is part of an experiment that aims to allow Dr. Hawking — long paralyzed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease — to communicate by merely thinking.
The iBrain is part of a new generation of portable neural devices and
algorithms intended to monitor and diagnose conditions like sleep apnea, depression and autism. Invented by a team led by Philip Low, a 32-year-old neuroscientist who is chief executive of NeuroVigil,
a company based in San Diego, the iBrain is gaining attention as a
possible alternative to expensive sleep labs that use rubber and plastic
caps riddled with dozens of electrodes and usually require a patient to
stay overnight.
“The iBrain can collect data in real time in a person’s own bed, or when
they’re watching TV, or doing just about anything,” Dr. Low said.
The device uses a single channel to pick up waves of electrical brain
signals, which change with different activities and thoughts, or with
the pathologies that accompany brain disorders.
But the raw waves are hard to read because they must pass through the
many folds of the brain and then the skull, so they are interpreted with
an algorithm that Dr. Low first created for his Ph.D., earned in 2007
at the University of California, San Diego. (The original research, published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, was done on zebra finches.)
About the Hawking experiment, he said, “The idea is to see if Stephen
can use his mind to create a consistent and repeatable pattern that a
computer can translate into, say, a word or letter or a command for a
computer.”
The researchers traveled to Dr. Hawking’s offices in Cambridge, England,
fitted him with the iBrain headband and asked him “to imagine that he
was scrunching his right hand into a ball,” Dr. Low said. “Of course, he
can’t actually move his hand, but the motor cortex in his brain can
still issue the command and generate electrical waves in his brain.”
The algorithm, called Spears, was able to discern Dr. Hawking’s thoughts
as signals, which were represented as a series of spikes on a grid.
“We wanted to see if there was any change in the signal,” Dr. Low said.
“And in fact, we did see a change in the signal.” NeuroVigil plans to
repeat the study in large populations of patients with A.L.S. and other neurodegenerative diseases.
These preliminary results come as Dr. Hawking’s ability to communicate
diminishes as his disease progresses. The 70-year-old physicist, whose
mind has produced crucial insights in theoretical physics as well as the
best-seller “A Brief History of Time,” now needs several minutes to
generate a simple message. He uses a pair of infrared glasses
that picks up twitches in his cheek. His team in Cambridge, England, has
dubbed this the “cheek switch.”
“Dr. Low and his company have done some outstanding work in this field,”
Dr. Hawking said in a statement. “I am participating in this project in
the hope that I can offer insights and practical advice to NeuroVigil. I
wish to assist in research, encourage investment in this area, and,
most importantly, to offer some future hope to people diagnosed with
A.L.S. and other neurodegenerative conditions.”
The physicist has also worked with other inventors seeking to better
elucidate his thoughts. Engineers at the semiconductor and computing
giant Intel recently hooked up a customized computer to communicate with
his cheek-reading infrared glasses, along with a voice synthesizer, a
webcam for using Skype, and special monitors. Intel is developing new
face-recognition software that can monitor subtle changes in expression
and may help Dr. Hawking communicate more efficiently.
Scientists not connected with Dr. Low say they are encouraged by the
iBrain’s potential. “Philip Low’s device is one of the best
single-channel brain monitors out there,” said Ruth O’Hara, an associate
professor of psychiatry
and behavioral sciences at Stanford University Medical School. She
plans to use the iBrain for autism studies. NeuroVigil has not said what
the device will cost.
“I can’t speak to the veracity of his latest data,” which has not been
published, Dr. O’Hara added, “but the preliminary data I have seen is
compelling. It could be a significant contribution to the field as a
window into brain architecture.”
Dr. Terry Heiman-Patterson, a neurologist and A.L.S. specialist at the
Drexel University College of Medicine, said she was in discussions with
NeuroVigil to use the device on A.L.S. patients, to see how they fared
with it in comparison with instruments that use multiple channels and
electrodes.
“Dr. Low is researching signals that look for intent, which is becoming
very exciting because it looks like they may be able to do it — for
Stephen Hawking and for others with A.L.S.,” Dr. Heiman-Patterson said.
“Patients want to be able to communicate beyond the yes or no with an
eye blink. They want to send an e-mail, and turn off the light and, even
more, to have a meaningful conversation.”
Monitors like the iBrain are also being used to assess whether
experimental neurological drugs are working in clinical trials.
In 2009, NeuroVigil completed a deal with the drug giant Hoffmann-La
Roche to test the iBrain. Neither company has released details of their
early tests. NeuroVigil’s strategy, Dr. Low said, is to run clinical
trials with Roche and other partners in industry and academia, and to
seek approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
Other companies also make single-channel brain monitors, but unlike
NeuroVigil they sell the devices and software directly to consumers
online.
Zeo, for example, based in
Massachusetts, concentrates on measuring sleep patterns through a
smartphone app or a clock-radio device — available for $99 and $143,
respectively. Emotiv Systems, in
San Francisco, offers its Epoc headset for $299 plus a range of apps and
add-ons that include neurofeedback, 3-D brain-mapping tools and games
like Angry Birds, all using a combination of thoughts and facial muscle
movements recorded by several electrodes that are in contact with a
customer’s head.
“We have no plans to take an academic route,” said Zeo’s chief
executive, Dave Dickinson, who added that his company’s customers had
logged one million hours of sleep time. He would not say how many
devices had been sold. Emotiv was founded in 2003 and has reportedly
shipped 10,000 devices.
Dr. Low plans to team up again with Dr. Hawking this summer in Cambridge to present their initial data at a neuroscience meeting
in early July. NeuroVigil will continue to work with Dr. Hawking and
his team to refine their technology to decipher signals generated by Dr.
Hawking’s thoughts. “At the moment I think my cheek switch is faster”
than the brain-computer interface, Dr. Hawking said in an e-mail sent by
an assistant, “ but should the position change I will try Philip Low’s
system.”
Much work remains, however, including the integration of Dr. Hawking’s
brain waves with the computers and devices that allow him to
communicate.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful,” Dr. Low said, “to have a mind like Stephen
Hawking’s be able to communicate even a little bit better?”

I look at advances like this sort of like the advances of when the Wright Brothers did the first gasoline powered human flight of a heavier than air aircraft. And just like then we must remember all the good and bad things that airplanes have been used for. They have been used to deliver the Atom Bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and for the fire bombing of European and Japanese cities where hundreds of thousands died in firebombings and Atom Bombs. But they also have delivered likely Billions of people safely now to their destinations worldwide and also saved countless millions of lives in life flights worldwide. So, just like this mind reading technology will bring out both the best and the worst of the human race potentially. Let's hope it moves us all forward more than it takes us to George Orwell's "1984".

13 year old valedictorian self-immolates in Pakistan
Pakistan schoolboy's self-immolation over school uniform raises alarm over poverty
By Richard Leiby and Haq Nawaz Khan, Monday, April 2, 10:46 AM
But instead of attending, Kamran set himself on fire with gasoline — ashamed, his family said, that he was too poor to afford a new school uniform as he entered the seventh grade.

(Haq Nawaz Khan/For The Washington Post) - Saleem Khan, 17,
holds a photo of his brother, Kamran Khan,13, as Kamran receives an
award at school. Kamran set himself on fire with gasoline – ashamed, his
family said, that he was too poor to afford a new school uniform as he
entered the seventh grade.
“We lost such a brilliant student, and only because of extreme poverty,” said Zakir Ullah Khan, principal of Mohmand Education Academy, a private school that enrolled Kamran for free because of his academic promise.
The boy’s family of seven lived with relatives in Pir Qilla, a town of about 2,000 families in a rural area about 40 miles from the Afghan border in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Relatives said that Kamran’s mother is a maid and that his unemployed father went to Saudi Arabia three months ago looking for work.
With his family unable to afford treatment, Kamran succumbed to the burns that were over 65 percent of his body.
Although statistics are sparse, officials say suicides have increased among all age groups in recent years in Pakistan. “Primarily, it’s joblessness and poverty,” said Zohra Yusuf, head of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
Kamran’s March 25 self-immolation also seemed connected to other stresses. It followed a bitter quarrel with his mother, Shahnaz Bibi, who said she had told him that she could not afford to buy him a new school outfit — a white pants-and-tunic set called a shalwar kameez — citing the need to feed the family, which included three daughters and another son.
“He threatened me that he was going to kill himself,” Bibi, 40, said in a tearful interview in Pir Qilla. “I felt he was only threatening.”
To obtain the gas, Bibi said, Kamran used his childhood savings, breaking open a small pot — the equivalent of a piggy bank.
“Mama, I am going forever,” he reportedly told her before setting himself on fire.
“I was totally helpless,” she recalled, “and, within minutes, his body was burnt.”
Kamran also harbored resentment because his mother had given up for adoption a newborn daughter two years ago, according to Kamran’s elder brother, Saleem Khan. “Had we not been poor, we would have our sister with us,” the 17-year-old said.
But Bibi said she did not regret her decision, because at the time she could not afford to feed, clothe or educate the children she already had.
The episode also led to marital strains, according to those close to the family.
Bibi collected donations and took her burned son in a relative’s car to two hospitals in Peshawar — but one would not admit him, and the other did not have a burn unit. She then took the boy to a military hospital with a burn center in the town of Kharian in Punjab province.
She said the hospital wanted 500,000 rupees, or about $5,500, to treat Kamran — a sum impossibly beyond her reach. By then, Kamran was near death.
The mother ended up selling her gold earrings to pay for an ambulance to transport her son’s body back to their home town for burial.
A military spokesman did not respond to a request for comment about Bibi’s account.
By reaching the seventh grade, Kamran had achieved the average educational standard in Pakistan. The expected length of schooling is seven years, according to figures from the U.N. Development Program.
Fifty-five percent of Pakistanis are illiterate, by U.N. measurement.
Another high-profile self-immolation occurred in October, when Raja Khan, an unemployed father of two from Sindh province, used kerosene to set himself ablaze in front of Parliament in Islamabad. He was not related to Kamran Khan.
Raja Khan, 23, cited poverty and asked the government to take care of his children. He left a letter that said: “I am taking this step because I am fed up with my financial condition.” (His third child was born within days of his death.)
Public school fees in Pakistan run just over $2 a month. Even so, many in the country never rise above the poverty line. Those who knew young Kamran Khan said he seemed destined for a better life.
“Kamran was a shining, outstanding, calm and talented student,” said Zakir Ullah Khan, the principal, who had known the boy since nursery school.
Besides his top ranking in the sixth grade, Kamran had achieved the No. 2 ranking in the entire academy, where classes extend to the 10th grade.
While relatives and friends gathered to mourn the boy Sunday, his mother sobbed as she recounted Kamran’s life and accomplishments. And she said, “I should have bought a new uniform for him.”
Khan reported from Pir Qilla, Pakistan. Special correspondent Shaiq Hussain in Islamabad contributed to this report.

This is one of the potential problems with self-immolation, it moves to younger people who are experiencing traumas in their own lives that they can't find a way to cope with.
Giving up Driver's License for Seniors can be like a Death Sentence
Senior drivers worry about giving up the car keys
By Larry Copeland, USA TODAY

Almost half the nation's older drivers
worry about losing their freedom and mobility when it's time to give up
driving, according to a new survey by auto club AAA.

Eighty-eight
percent of drivers 65 and older said the inability to drive would be a
problem, and 57% said it would be a somewhat serious or very serious
problem.
"By 2020 — just eight years from now —
it's estimated that nearly one in six people will be age 65 or older,"
says Robert Darbelnet, president and CEO of AAA. "No matter how active
and healthy seniors are today, it's evident that giving up the keys is
still a top concern."
Perhaps helping to
dispel the notion that older drivers are more dangerous, AAA found that
drivers 65 and older often "self-police": 61% don't drive in bad
weather, 50% avoid night driving and 42% don't drive in heavy traffic.
The
national telephone survey of 2,017 adults, including 512 aged 65 and
older, was conducted in December for AAA. It has a margin of error of
+/-4.9 percentage points.
As 10,000 Americans
turn 65 every day, the findings show a high level of concern among one
of the fastest-growing groups of drivers on the roads. Anxiety about
losing their mobility is justfied, says Amy Levner, AARP's
manager of home and family issues. "On any given day, half the people
who no longer drive are stranded at home," she says. "For most people,
when they stop driving, they simply slide over and become a passenger."
Levner
says most seniors who give up the keys either have no access to public
transportation or are reluctant to use it. The anxiety reflected in the
AAA survey reflects the reality of a society built around the
automobile, she says.
Communities used to be
designed around individual pedestrians, and roads were meant to be
shared by all users — before the era of suburbanization, Levner says.
"Now, folks are graying, and growing older, and getting stranded in the
suburbs," she says.
AARP recommends that
families with a senior who quits driving set up a regular schedule of
rides with family and friends for activities such as doctor's visits and
shopping trips.
Catherine Sinclair-Williams,
77, of Elmont, N.Y., says she's been a licensed driver for 6o years and
expects to keep driving for at least an additional 16. "My dad drove
until he was 92," says Sinclair-Williams, who's retired after careers at
a telephone company and as a third-grade teacher. "I think maybe I can
outlast him."
Sinclair-Williams, who drives
about 200 miles per week, says she has cut back on driving at night
since being diagnosed with glaucoma. She says she hasn't had a citation
in more than 10 years and drives as well now as she did at 30. "I'm an
old young woman," she says. "I go into Manhattan every other week."
She says losing her car would be devastating. "My car is very, very important," she says. "I must have a car."

When my mother gave up her driver's license it was the beginning of the end for her. Within one year of voluntarily giving up her driver's license she began to enter Senile Dementia. Within 2 years of giving up her driver's license she had tried to burn down her apartment and we had no choice but to put her in an Alzheimer's and Senile Dementia facility. To say she tried to burn it down is actually incorrect. She used the electric Stove like we all had told her not to and then set a plastic Tupperware bowl on it while it was on. When the flames began to cascade down the side of the Oven with burning plastic she sat at her kitchen table and prayed the flames would not burn the Apartment building down. 12 hours later we found her praying at the kitchen table and realized she was now a Potential threat not only to herself but to others and realized she could also burn our home down or worse when we weren't looking and we had a 5 year old daughter. The point where the problems began was giving up her driver's license. Without her driver's license her social life ended. All she had was TV after that and that was not enough to keep her mentally well and she began to slip away from us. I took her with my then 10 year old daughter to see the old country where her parents grew up near Glasgow, Scotland and then we met my son in Germany and drove through Austria and Switzerland all the way to northern Italy. But then when we flew back to London for our London to San Francisco flight she wouldn't come out of the hotel room in London for anything except to board the plane home to San Francisco. It all started when she gave up her license. She died from Senile dementia in a Coma in an Alzheimer's and Senile Demental facility in 2008 about 10 years after she gave up her driver's license.
Humans Used Fire 1,000,000 years ago
Ash and charred bone, the earliest known evidence of controlled use of fire, reveal that human ancestors may have used fire a million years ago, a discovery that researchers say will shed light on this major turning point in human evolution.
Scientists analyzed material from Wonderwerk Cave in South Africa, a
massive cavern located near the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Previous
excavations there had uncovered an extensive record of human occupation.Microscopic analysis revealed clear evidence of burning, such as plant ash and charred bone fragments. These materials were apparently burned in the cave, as opposed to being carried in there by wind or water, and were found alongside stone tools in a layer dating back about 1 million years. Surface fracturing of ironstone, the kind expected from fires, was also seen.
Although modern humans are the only human species alive today,
originating about 200,000 years ago, other human species once roamed the
Earth, such as Homo erectus, which arose about 1.9 million years ago. [10 Things That Make Humans Special]
"The analysis pushes the timing for the human use of fire back by 300,000 years, suggesting that human ancestors as early as Homo erectus may have begun using fire as part of their way of life," said researcher Michael Chazan, a paleolithic archaeologist at the University of Toronto and director of the university's archaeology center.
The research team's analysis suggests that materials in the cave were
not heated above about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (700 degrees Celsius).
This is consistent with preliminary findings that grasses, brushes and
leaves were burned for these fires — such fuel would not have been
capable of hotter flames.
Fire would have helped early humans stay warm and keep nighttime
predators at bay, and enabled cooking, which would have made food more
digestible. In addition, "socializing around a campfire might actually
be an essential aspect of what makes us human," Chazan said. "The
control of fire would have been a major turning point in human
evolution."
Harvard anthropologist Richard Wrangham has speculated that controlled fires and cooked meat even influenced human brain evolution. He suggests that humans were cooking their prey as far back as the first appearance of Homo erectus
1.9 million years ago, just when humans were experiencing major brain
expansion, and proposes that cooking allowed our ancestors to evolve
larger, more calorie-hungry brains and bodies, and smaller guts suited
for more easily digested cooked food.
"It's possible we may find evidence of fire use as early as Wrangham has suggested," Chazan told LiveScience.
Future research will analyze both earlier and later materials from this
site to see how fire use might have developed over time.
"We're opening the question of how fire fit into the life of early
humans and how that might have changed over time," Chazan said.
The scientists detailed their findings online April 2 in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

I think eventually they will find humans used fire much further back than that over the next few hundred years.
33 happiest age
Friends Reunited, a U.K. website, found that 70 percent of respondents over the age of 40 said they did not find true happiness until they were 33 years old.
"[That age] is enough time to have
shaken off childhood naivety and the wild scheming of teen-aged years
without losing the energy and enthusiasm of youth," Donna Dawson, a
psychologist, told Fox's Washington, D.C., affiliate.
"Innocence has been lost, but our sense of reality is mixed with a
strong sense of hope, a 'can do' spirit, and a healthy belief in our own
talents and abilities."
As the site pointed out,
Jesus Christ was crucified at age 33. Oh, and "33-year-old celebrities
like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine and Katie
Holmes seem to be enjoying a wealth of success right now."
Even non-celebrities agree.
"It's the sex, definitely," Christine Possemato, a 35-year-old from Springfield, N.J., told the New York Daily News. "You're hitting your stride. You're a lot more confident and you can attract younger guys."end quote from:

I agree completely with this. The happiest physically I was was between 32 to 37. I was okay until my father passed away. However, excluding youth, the happiest I have been (with the aches and pains of age) would be 50 to the present (age 63). I would say the least happy time of my life was between 18 and 30 because of all the unrealistic expectations people have to wade through and hopefully not self destruct through in their 20s. So, once again 30 to 37 is the physically happiest and most pain free you will be on physical levels. But if you are still alive after 50 with your physical health intact you might be happier as a whole person after 50 as well like me which in some ways is even better than the 30 to 37 times.

European Right Wing Extremism
My previous article which is a quote is a useful gauge using graphs of European sentiment regarding extremists views in European and Eastern European Countries. Sometimes, we here in the U.S. think that only we have extremists on both sides but they are everywhere, but in slightly different points of view than here regarding everything. I think it is important to honor people's views as long as they aren't killing people or committing genocide. Almost all people are genuine in their beliefs and those beliefs also come from direct experiences in their lives growing up and the experiences of all their friends and relatives. So, people's points of view are going to mostly stay the same until they have better experiences everywhere they go and also get better educations and learn to communicate personally with people from all walks of life worldwide.

Some People Can Deal with Reality Some Can't
When I grew up things were more difficult than now in many ways. There were people who were very miserably aware of how difficult life was and then there were people, usually wives and children who were sheltered by those who loved them. However, now things are different and more people (at least all the adults) deal with reality in a more pragmatic way, even though life is strange in a whole different way than it was in the 1950s. To make a long story short, more people live a whole lot longer and seem to, at the very least, suffer physically a whole lot less than before. However, that could be an appearance of reality because in the end I am only one person observing people around me as I move through my own life.
When I grew up in the 1950s kids were dying from Polio and other now preventable diseases. Even my best friend in Junior High and High School had to wear braces on his legs until he was 6 or 7 from polio. His arms were very strong to compensate and in Junior high school he set the timed record for the rope climb in Gym. His arms were so strong that he didn't use his legs at all to reach the top. His record stood for about 25 years after we graduated.
I think I became more of a realist than many of my friends because I almost died from Whooping cough as a very young kid and later thought I likely was going to die from childhood epilepsy (Blunt trauma epilepsy) between the ages of 10 to 15. Needless to say, my best friend and I were much more serious about life than others of our friends and much more responsible throughout Junior High and High School. Many of our friends were doing crazy things and going to Honor camps (jail for teenagers) We never went to jail for anything, even for a night, because we were always much more responsible that anyone we knew.
I think near death experiences, particularly if you believe you might die at any time over a period of weeks, months or years can make one become very realistic about life or completely disconnected from life. Luckily, it made me more realistic about what was possible and what wasn't on every level physical, mental and spiritual.
It is true that some people, because of really bad experiences during childhood or their twenties, are separated from reality, and join those people you see walking down the street talking to themselves or sitting on park benches talking to themselves because they have either just seen too many bad things happen or they had health issues to begin with or both. In the fifties, anyone who was traumatized or different was at risk for institutionalization. With the dismantling of our mental health care institutions, we see the walking wounded among us as never before.
Unless you face life, you don't ever really have a life worth living. Though it is true you can live with your parents until you are 40, I think that is a mistake in most cases. The Golden Window to create your own life is between the ages of 15 and 40. If you haven't established your own life by then, it is much less likely that you will ever have your own life. This has been my observation since I survived childhood epilepsy and tends to be most people's reality. I like to include all the do overs too, even if you start over 3 or more times, you are learning new things each time. Also, just like starting a business, "you learn much more from your mistakes than you do your successes." It holds true in all aspects of life. Almost any one can live with success. But can you live with several failures before you succeed?
