You cannot defeat a self sustaining State Capitalistic system with 1.4 billion people. In the first place they really don't need to trade with anyone really because they can easily be self sustaining. So, starting a trade war with China is sort of like playing Russian Roulette with a gun to your head. In other words (only someone like Trump would be crazy enough to even attempt this).
The end result more likely is that China will now strategically target all our biggest and most successful companies and bring them down one by one by strategically applying tariffs to put out of business any competition for Chinese Companies in the U.S.
So, likely what we will see is companies here in the U.S. that need to buy from or sell to China will be put out of business one by one. OR they will have to find other sources to buy raw materials from than China and other to sell their products to than China.
So, Basically what Trump is doing is "Ending Trade with China" from U.S. companies much like how Americans started a Trade War just before Pearl Harbor with Japan. So, unless someone wants a bloody war with China this is stupid in the extreme.
Also, another way to look at it is this: Kissinger and Nixon started trade with China to avoid a nuclear or army war with China because their armies outnumbered ours. So, without nuclear weapons on a pure soldier level they could have outnumbered us. But, when we started trade with China we built up their economy by doing this much like we built up Japan's economy after World war II like this as well.
So now, Trump is reversing all this through a trade war and this is just making it more necessary for us to have to eventually go to war with China as a direct result. So, it's just basically stupid and not in our long term best interests here in the U.S.
