Long Life Practices

During the 1980s it was my Karma and my Dharma to meet many Tibetan Buddhist students and Tibetan Lamas in the U.S., in India and in Nepal.

One of the many empowerments and initiations I received from Tibetan Lamas was White Tara Long Life practice. This appears to be the easiest to receive whether you are in the U.S. , India or Nepal or other places in Canada, Europe or wherever Tibetan Lamas tend to be.

The whole point of a Long Life practice is you are praying to live a long time so you can pray for everyone and meditate and help all beings on earth by generating compassion for all life in the universe. This is sometimes called "Generating Bodhichitta"

  1. Tibetan Buddhists maintain that there are two main ways to cultivate Bodhichitta, the "Seven Causes and Effects" that originates from Maitreya and was taught by ...

The other long life practices are regarding Padmasambhava which might be more difficult to obtain, depending upon where you are on earth right now.

Both types of practices are for people who are dedicating themselves to becoming compassion and wisdom emanations and because of their good works often their lives are increased by their good will and positive actions towards others and all life around them and throughout the universe.

If you demonstrate kindness towards all beings and especially if you are wise and right mindful in all or most of your thoughts and actions the good karma of a long life may come to you.

However, I think it is also equally important to study diet, and exercise and being in places where there is no smog or pollution if possible too. All factors matter including genetics, consciousness, diet etc. to a very long compassionate and wise life.  Also, surrounding yourself with like minded people also might help too.
