Most people sort of expect (barring a miracle) that Assad will be gone by this time next year. But the real problem for Syria is millions of Alawite Shiite Muslims might also be dead, massacred by ISIS by this time next year too. (As well as any Christians, Sunnis, Yazidis or secular people under his protection too).
Yemen is a different problem. By this time next year 20 million Yemenis could have starved to death unless food and supplies reach them by then through the Saudi Blockade.
So, two humanitarian disasters are in the making right now on top of the Nepal ongoing earthquake disaster and the boat people who are Muslims drowning trying to get away from Burma (Myanmar).
The world may not be up to doing enough not to watch millions and millions die by this time next year in all these places. So, this might be pretty horrific to watch over the next year or so.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
