The Carr Fire is turning into another disaster for a city like the Santa Rosa Fire was last year: only this time it is Redding, California

The winds are the problem and the 110 degrees predicted for Redding today. During some parts of the day the winds sweep down the mountains and into the city of Redding which happens often where mountain ranges and cities meet.

During the day heat rises so the winds tend to go up the mountain passes but during the nights at some point the winds sweep down the valleys and tend to bring any fires with those winds. And fire personnel are often put in danger when this happens as well as local people in their homes or vehicles trying to survive when this happens.

The main problem being people don't want to leave their homes and are unlikely to if it gets later than about 9 or 10 pm at night. BUT, the winds coming downslope are often the fastest sometime between Midnight and 6 to 7 am which is also why people often get burned up in their homes who haven't left before 9 or 10 pm the previous night.

Because the high winds coming downslope often into suburban developments tend to wipe out homes on the outskirts of cities throughout California and the drier hotter western states. IF the winds are ferocious enough they are like a blow torch and no fire department can stop them. We have seen this too in California.

So, the security people feel in their homes has to be balanced with the realities of the fire and winds or people just wind up dead and burned up in the middle of the night in California and western states during fire seasons (or any time of year).
