I talked to friends of mine who were returning from business in Medford to Mt. Shasta and were saying All wheel drive cars were doing much better than 4 wheel drive vehicles in these conditions (at least on I-5 they found this was true). Two other friends called or texted me and told me I shouldn't come up there because of the storms and temperatures so we decided yesterday it didn't feel right given all present variables.
Even where we are there are now 12 to 16 foot waves on the ocean and expected 20 to 30 mph constant winds with up to 60 mph gusts throughout the night. So, even here I had to remove all my deck chairs off my deck so they didn't break windows or sliding glass doors in the growing winds.
On top of all this snow levels are supposed to reduce to about 500 to 600 feet in many many places in Northern California. So, even cities above 500 feet may have to find snow plows or sand to sand the roads and people not used to driving or walking or moving at all in the snow will be in danger because of this all over northern California. So, we are very glad indeed we chose not to drive north today.
30 mph constant winds with gusts above that right now in San Francisco:
