The problem is that souls don't naturally live in time and space. Matter is not their home though they can exist in matter in a human body too. So, saying that Souls can live for billions and billions of years simply because they don't naturally live in matter or time to begin with. They live in the primordial sea that predates all galaxies in which time and space does not exist.
Time and Space were actually created ONLY by creating Matter Galaxies because I don't personally know what happens regarding time and space in the anti-matter galaxies at all and though I might have theories I don't want to share them right now until I'm more sure about my theories.
