1968 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe | Beverly Hills Car Club
This is pretty much what I had except I didn't have the racing white stripe on the front. But, I did have chrome wheels and extra wide tires for Traction and cornering and driving at high speed and keeping control of your car over 100 mph on up to 145 miles per hour which was the fastest I ever drove it.
Great Car!
I bought it in 1968 brand new and we kept it in the family until 1978, 10 years! When I bought this I was making really good money at 20 because I was working as a computer programmer-computer operator with a company that did automated accounting for most car dealerships in California. But, eventually I decided to go back to college by around 1970 or 1971 in the San Diego Area. I bought this when I worked in North Hollywood and I grew up in Glendale California from age 8 in 1956 until 1969 when I moved to the San Diego area and eventually returned to college in San Diego County, California.
One of several amazing stories regarding this car. It handled in amazing ways and this was before most cars had radial tires which improve traction especially in turns about 50% for most cars and eliminated most accidents people had. So, one day I was driving on the Los Angeles 405 near LAX (the Los Angeles airport) and I saw a car go air born about 10 feet into the air in front of me and come down sideways in the lane several cars ahead of me. I knew immediately that I would crash if I stayed in the fast lane and that most cars where I was were going to be destroyed. So, luckily there was an emergency lane and ONLY because I had perfect reflexes at 20 and knew exactly what to do and was driving a Muscle car could I ever have done this. I skidded sideways to my left and then skidded to the right so I was immediately in the emergency lane to my left and passed all the wreckage without being killed myself by slowing down in the emergency lane while cars crashed all around me. However, most cars (and drivers) could never have successfully done this anyway because they were not driving a muscle car race car like a Camaro or Mustang or Cougar or some other type of muscle car with wide tires to survive this. If most people had attempted what I did and succeeded at they would have turned their car over at around 70 mph and even more people would have wrecked. So, luckily I had fast reflexes and a car that could actually do that if you were skilled enough and not wreck!
This is only one of many amazing stories I could tell you about just how amazing this car was and the ones that remain who were maintained properly probably still are.
